How much is your insurance?

This topic came up in the "Roll Call" section, and I figured it'd be neat to see it in its own little thread.

State your age, sex, vehicle, whether or not you've been in an accident, if you get a "good student discount", and how much a month your insurance is.

Like I stated in the other post, Im an 18 year old male, and the insurance on my 91 Ranger has been $42 and some odd change per month. Never been in any wrecks, and I get the good student discount.

I also have a 95 F-150 with a 351W, dead E4OD tranny, soon to be swapped out for a ZF heavy duty manual 5 speed, and I paid roughly 100 a month. I dropped the insurance since the forward clutches are locked up, and I'm not goin anywhere with it!

john112deere 03-02-2006 07:29 PM

18 year old male, 1 minor accident at 16, one speeding ticket at 16 (but I don't think they added for that, according to my bill)
1997 Ranger, liability and comprehensive, no collision

When I was living at home, in MA, it was $2100/year (I save $5/month by paying lump-sum). Because I've taken the truck to Maine (which has MUCH cheaper rates) the stupid sons of guns RAISED my insurance $400. I really need to switch the registration up up here...

This is equal to $6.57 EVERY DAY of the year.

(I don't have collision because with the mileage, one year's worth would be more than the value of the truck. After the deductable, there was almost no way it would have been to my advantage.)

EDIT: I don't get a good student discount because I'm too stupid and lazy to call and do it.

bigbubba4421 03-02-2006 07:43 PM

18, no accidents, and I drive a 1996 Volkswagen Cabrio(don't ask i know its a chick car) and my insurance is $1000 a year with no student discount. This is in Pennsylvania. I can't wait to find out what ridiculous sum I'll be paying for the 1973 F-250 4x4 with the 360 in it after dad and I finish restoring it.

handyman43358 03-02-2006 07:58 PM

You won't pay much for the ol truck. It's old, solid, and not worth much to the insurance companies (Although it may be a treasure to you.)

Franken-Truck 03-02-2006 08:47 PM

22, male, 2004 F150, spotless record, $1700 a year for insurance. No student discount becuase I only pull part time credit-hours. That plus taxes and a monthly payment aint worth it, probably sell it when the '78 is done :-X22

My '87 cost me less than half, and was about $13 a year in taxes :-X07

captain p4 03-02-2006 09:17 PM

17, male, 2000 f150 5.4 4x4, no accidents, Good student discount and full coverage=about 100-150 month... but its set up so it looks like i'm driving the older truck we have, so thats why its not too crazy.

handyman43358 03-02-2006 09:26 PM

Oh yea! I forgot to have ya'll tell whether or not you're fully covered!

I have liability by the way!

fiftyfourdf100 03-02-2006 09:34 PM

17 going on 18 year old, male, in Iowa. I have both my vehicles insured under leisure vehicles, and it is completely legal to do it that way.Unfortunately since the vehicles are under my name, but they are leisure vehicles, I cannot get the "good student/driver discount". But I haven't had an accident. My brother-in-law works at the company I get my insurance through, and he found the loop hole that I could register both under leisure vehicles.
My 54 Ford F100 street rod is an agreed upon value at $35,000(comprehensive, collision, under/un-insured driver, the works) and it is only $52/month and my Contour SVT(comprehensive, collision, & under/un-insured driver) is now $65/month after my most recent speeding "notice".

Full coverage here.

Tell me more about leisure vehicles :-D

handyman43358 03-02-2006 09:56 PM

No kidding! If thats the case my Ranger is going to become a leisure vehicle!

spidk43 03-02-2006 10:00 PM

$1100/year (I'm registered as primary driver on my parents plan) on my 95 xlt f-150. prolly has to do with the 351W and the 4x4...

I got one speeding ticket (in the dag gone minivan!!!) 44 in a 25... didn't get any points... but was a hefty sum. The magistrate was "reluctant" to take off the points. Insurance didn't go up tho.

oh and that's with PLPD... blah... don't know if I get a good student discount, but I sure did make sure to call them and tell them to give me that air bag and ABS discount the second I found out we weren't getting it!

fiftyfourdf100 03-02-2006 10:15 PM

I think the "leisure vehicle" insurance only applies if you have Allied Insurance like I have, I don't know about any other companies. I just know thats what it says on my card, I would imagine if you just ask for it you will get it.

jimbo beam 03-02-2006 10:19 PM

20 year old male, no speeding tickets[good ol inline was never that fast] no accidents that were my fault. my trucks are insured under my name but are on the same policy as 4 other family vehicles and our house.

1996 f150 - full coverage $63.00 a month
1982 f100 - liability only $29.00 a month

Aznboi 03-02-2006 11:48 PM

as stated in the other thread...

16, male, no accidents, full coverage and i'm payin 1500 per year so that comes out to 125 a month.. my insurace is with AAA and i have plus (so called, have the card and eveything)... thing is my insurace would be more, bout 500 more but i got the education discount, and Teen smart... also would have been cheaper to get a truck with airbags but this truck is SOLID.. truck specs are in my sig :/... end rant

Beast12 03-03-2006 11:48 AM

I am a 24 year old male who is married. Full coverage on my 2002 Ford Focus is around $120 per month. That should go down when I turn 25. No accidents or tickets.

bks90F150 03-04-2006 08:46 PM

I am a 19 year old male. I live in California and drive a 90 F150 2wd. I am fully covered, get a good-student discount, and I have no accidents. I pay 90 dollars/month. I feel lucky.

Too much...
Well its better now I don't have the car or the SuperDuty, but under 25 year old males with performance cars have to a bit of a cash cow for insurance companies (well the ones that don't crash anyway)
My insurance got well into 4 figures per month... and then it got to the point where nobody would insure my car :-X16

Kevin003 03-05-2006 08:37 AM

Im a 16yr old male and i pay 52$ a month for my 1993 Ford F350 Diesel. Thats without the student discount. I feel lucky

Red Star 03-05-2006 10:17 PM

F-150 is about $60, Mustang is about $40.
Since I got speeding ticket recently (65 mph in 50 mph zone) I'm pretty sure insurance will go up soon.

shakemyspeare 03-06-2006 06:23 PM

25 y.o. male (technically single) with a 2000 Explorer XLT 4x4. I've got one minor speeding ticket and no accidents. I'm covered for a million bucks and it only costs me $125 bucks a month.

Munky 03-06-2006 06:38 PM

20 year old male, no accidents, no tickets, full coverage, 2000 Ford F-150 Extended Cab, 4.6L V8, Sport 4x4. Monthly insurance is about $124 but I'm also on my parents' policy because it keeps it cheaper for me. Without being on their policy I'd be paying about $150 a month.

bassproguy07 03-06-2006 06:42 PM

I dont pay for my insurance, i pay for gas and maintnence and i payed for the truck my parents pay the insurance. If i fail no more keys till i pass(never happens)

88F-150pimp 03-06-2006 07:18 PM

17, male, colorado resident ($$$), no accidents or tickets. about $81/mo. for 100/300/100 liability along with all the un/under insured motorist and medical charges. Good student discount helps too. No collision or comprehensive for the old mexi-mobile.

Nathane 03-06-2006 09:28 PM

120 a month, liability only
$108 a month with my soon to be discontinued discount (my first hour teachers a hack)

82 f150, i think im covered 25k property damage, and 500k in total, and up to 250k for the most $$ person

whatever, insurance companys are blood sucking evil things... like lawyers
The less I call mine, the cheaper my rates are... i plan on trying to, should a crash happen, pay outside of "big brother" if nobodys hurt... cheaper for both partys that way

~Nate

*EDIT*yeah, im 16, and have had my lisance all of 5 days*EDIT*

BucksTrucks 03-07-2006 01:06 AM

Im 17, liability, no good student, and I pay 117 a month. But that is for two trucks, my F150 and my toyota pickup.

;

I wish it was like that here. In Alberta here it used to be like that but then it changed. My insurance is about $120/month, even when I switched from my parents 90 f150, 2wd 5.8L auto to my 66f100 2wd 4.0L manual and insurance never changed, im 18 and got the driver ed certificate and once my 66 is restored its gonna go up just becuse of its quality. It was a few years ago when my insurance would only have been less than $500/year, becuase its old and solid. (BTW, that was all I paid for it)

Patatoe1 03-07-2006 09:51 PM

I'm paying about $125 a month. Just about 19 years old, still under my parents insurance, and I get the good student discount.

89300L64x4 03-25-2006 02:41 AM

im 17, male, one accsident (dont wana talk about it) didnt change nothin though, 300 every 3 months so 100$ a month, liability, good stundent? HECK NO!!!!!

michaelbarry 03-27-2006 12:23 AM

Wow, you guys have it easy. I'm stuck here in good old West Virginia, paying these outrages insurance prices. Me and my mom are on the same policy, her 95 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4x4 with the 318 v8 and my 99 3.0 Ranger 4x4..she's listed as the primary driver on both...liability..we're paying ~$300/month. You all should feel very VERY lucky.

michaelbarry 03-27-2006 12:24 AM

btw..that's with my good student discount.

skilife17 03-27-2006 09:14 AM

I am paying about $220 a month currently it was $270 before. I have had my license for aobut 4 months. I'm 19 and drive a 97 F150 Lariat 4x4 Scab.

weeds 03-27-2006 10:33 AM

18, male, no accidents, no reportable tickets (< 5mph)
1995 F-150 XLT 4x4 351w
Insurance for my truck is ~$450 every 6 months, about $75/month. I guess insurance looks at it like my parent's vehicle and my sister's car as my vehicle, because insurance on her '96 Grand Am (3rd car on policy) is ~$600 every 6 months or $100/month.

Cuda444 03-27-2006 10:42 AM

22 male, no crashes or tickets... 2000 F250 4x4 reg cab, no good student discount that I know of. MA insurance: 1000/yr

Tom

Peter94 03-27-2006 07:15 PM

cuda you got full coverage on that?

Mine is $470 every six months for my truck, and $154 ever 6 months for my car. Liability only on both, no tickets, not accidents, good student discount. The reason the car is so cheap is because both vehicles are under my parents name, but since the car is the 5th vehicle, and we only have 4 licensed drivers in my family, it falls under an adult rate. Got to love that. thats only $25 for the car and $78 a month for the truck. Not to shabby.

Cuda444 03-27-2006 09:35 PM

It's under my parents name at the moment... Sorry, I should have mentioned that. I can't wait till after I get out of school and it gets on my name...

Tom

tekrsq 03-28-2006 06:48 AM

For the most part, most of you guys are making out pretty good.

38, married, no tickets from me or the wife (daughter has a couple). We pay 2300/yr (through State Farm) for full coverage on my 03 4x4 Ranger, wife's 03 Sebring, daughter's 00 Mustang, my 04 Ninja 636, and our homeowners insurance.

I don't remember the exact break down, but I think my Ranger is around $500/ yr.

Hillbillywagon 03-28-2006 01:56 PM

24 years old married and own my own home.

I pay a little over a grand every six months. That is with three trucks on full coverage (99 ford 99 z71 and a 00 z71) and 4 on liability only. No tickets or accidents on my record, no tickets and one accident on my wifes record.

Hillbillywagon 03-28-2006 01:57 PM

For those of you looking for cheeper insurance take a look at esurance. That is the company that I use and they were quite a bit cheeper than any of the others that quoted me.

Peter94 03-29-2006 12:18 AM

Hey tekrsq just a fair warning. I dont know about state farm in your area, but around here i'd rather do my insurance through a crack dealer. The people from State Farm insurance are the biggest bunch of criminals we've ever met. Our town was hit by a tornado in 98, the tornado wasnt the actual biggest pain in the butt, State Farm insurace was. The adjuster was a dick, saying that there were pre-existing cracks in the house so they shouldnt have to fix them. Ya, well a crack is one thing, the 4 inch gap it turned into because of the house shifting is another. My dad finally kicked him out of the house. Always wanted to show up and cut you a check for a small amount of money that wouldnt cover anywhere near the amount of damage that was done. Then the claim would be settled and they would save money while you'd be screwed. My dad had learned quick from this one.... He had a claim on his truck when it was newer (83 ford pickup) had hail damage or he backed into something, dont remember, but they sent out a "state farm" estimator and settled on say a $500 check. Went to get it fixed, and go figure costed like $750 or something like that. They do that crap all the time. Also after the tornado they owed us like $2000 and were refusing to pay, asked our lawyers to give them a call, after that we had the check within 2 hours.

Read some of these claims. I found them by just typing in state farm into a search engine. http://www.carreview.com/cat/automob...x.aspx#reviews
