That's the idea, inna nutshell Travis...Just something stronger...
And I'd like to make a setup, that bypasses the crumple horns, and attached to the frame BEHIND them...For more strength for pushing, etc...So as they don't get, well.....Crumpled...:-X04 |
Great looking trucks guys

i don't know about the crush zone on a 1/2 ton. mine has two receiver hitches welded inside the frame and then bolted to them (I did it in case i wanted to build something else to attach to the front like a snowplow). it is a frame out of 1/4 steel with a piece of 1/4 aluminum 8" channel.

Thats AWESOME work Terry..
The Crumple Zones on the F-150's are a weak point...Why they were added, aside from "Safety" reasons...I'll never know.. |
Dad & I built a prerunner bumper today. Pictures will come when I get the hubcaps & fender flares put on the F-350.

Made a run to Pick-n-Pull for 3G swap stuff and a couple of other things:
Here are the pictures: Wire harness: Is this correct wiring? https://www.supermotors.net/getfile/...e/img_0130.jpg Alternator is from Taurus: https://www.supermotors.net/getfile/...e/img_0131.jpg https://www.supermotors.net/getfile/...e/img_0132.jpg I had it tested at NAPA and it passed. Here is all of the spoils from today's run to Pick-n-Pull: https://www.supermotors.net/getfile/...e/img_0133.jpg All for ~$55. Those are 8 Ford relays... payed nothing for those:) Here is the Pick-n-Pull: https://www.supermotors.net/getfile/...e/img_0135.jpg I took the alternator and plugs from the white Taurus to the right(the door you see) And there was no getting to most of the trucks: https://www.supermotors.net/getfile/...e/img_0134.jpg I also got everything else for the power cable for the alternator except the MEGA Fuse and holder... |
looks like you have some water there.
|
Did the dreaded exhaust manifold today! Broke two bolts off managed to wrangle them out eventually.
Purrs like a dream now. Also ran to Pick a Part and snagged front tow hooks, and factory steel wheel hubcaps, and some molding! all for 20 bucks. Been looking for like a year for those hub cabs with the hole in the centre!! Stoked! Picks to follow once i spiff big blue up! |
Finished the 3G swap today. BIG improvement. Truck used to produce ~12.8v at idle. Now it is up to ~14.4v at idle. After trimming the bracket it went right in. Glad I didnt order the wiring from RJM. It would have cost me ~$115 including the alternator. making the wiring got me down to ~$70 including the alternator.
New alternator in: https://www.supermotors.net/getfile/...e/img_0136.jpg Had to replace the starter solenoid because one of the terminals on the old one snapped when I tried to remove the nut. No motorcraft ones in stock so I got a BWD one for now. https://www.supermotors.net/getfile/...e/img_0137.jpg Got the fuse and holder from NAPA for $14. https://www.supermotors.net/getfile/...e/img_0138.jpg New alternator wiring. Im pleased with the result. That 2 gauge wire is a pain in the @$$ to work with... https://www.supermotors.net/getfile/...e/img_0139.jpg Much better output: https://www.supermotors.net/getfile/...e/img_0140.jpg |
Nice job Evan_P. Good pics too.
|
I tried to take as many pictures as I could in case anyone else wanted to do the swap. Tried to help other's out if I could.
|
I tried to take the axles out of my Dana 44 REAR *... no dice... I removed the retainer plate yet it wouldn't budge, i guess there must be some c-clips in there i'm missing, if there aren't i'll have to hit the thing with a hammer to pull it out (i would hate to do that).
*yes, mine has a Dana 44. |
Didn't do anything to the truck specifically but I finally figured out how to put a pic of my truck in my garage. :)
|
good bye old 2G!
nice job Evan.
next time you need to give someone a boost, you won't need to rev the engine up.their vehicle will start inside of a couple mins (if not well inside 1 min) with yours just at idle.:-X22 next up: electric cooling fan swap!? ;) |
Maybe in the future but not something I really need. Thinking more along the line of fog lights and new speakers. But those will have to wait a little bit. Up next: Cleaning in and out
