I like poplar for several things.. used rough cut 2x4's for rafters.. easy to work with and light compared to the red oak I was using for other stuff..

It is nice and white and has a pretty glow to it...
Time I say good night now...ttyl |

morning!
i'm reallystarting to look forward to a 48-50 f1 build with my dad, just still need to find the right deal. i did find a f5 iirc in that era not far from me for $1500 flatbed. are the cabs & front clips all the same on the f1s, 2s, 3s, & up? |
The fenders are pretty much the only thing that's different as far as the body goes, bigger the truck the bigger the wheel well openings. Axles, gearing and bolt patterns change the bigger the truck is and frames get heavier too...
ah gotcha, i didn't realize the wheel wells were bigger. i bet it would look funny having larger truck fenders sitting on little 15" rims with 27" tires then, what do you think? lol
oh yeah, we're planning to put it on a 1983 ranger frame (little ranger) so we can use the front disk brakes. also, that littel ranger came with a heavy littel 4cyl diesel, so it has good heavy springs up front for the 390 FE that we want to stuff in there lol
It does look a little weird to me...lol
lol! well darn, i was thinking that f5 for $1500 plus a bed off a 1950 f1 i found locally for $800 would do it! i bet those wheel wells would kinda bother my dad too. and me lol
If any of the trucks are in descent shape I say get them, the fenders from a F-1 will still fit. If your plans are to keep it original there are plenty of front axles from F1's available from guys who are converting to IFS cross members ..rear diffs up to 72 F100's are pretty much a bolt in or you could use an Explorer differential also..
