I need a tank$

I am messing with this issue right now as I found a great 78' bed with the rear fill door that I modified to fit on my 74' and would like nothing more than to dump the tank in the cab. I would be in.

Also remember, the Bronco II tanks fit between the rails. The rear crossmember must be moved back a little bit and some angle iron or whatever placed forward to mount some tank straps. It's a smaller tank, but not much smaller if any than the in cab tank. For me, I just wanted a bigger tank or I might have gone that route.

Will the Bronco II tank fit between the rails on the 74'? Not sure if your 77' is the narrow or wider ones.

Yep, mine also has the narrow frame rail. Here is a pic (courtesy of armstrongfordtrucks I think) that I had saved for reference showing a bronco II tank in a highboy.

Perfect, thanks. I see that BG has a 33 gallon Bronco II tank as an option on their site, I wonder if I can get that wedged in there. Got a class 4 hitch to deal with too. Thanks for the info.

Based on the pic it looks like the 23 gallon option at BG that fits a 1985-1990. Do you happen to know if that is the one? Doesn't look like any of the others.

The one in the pic is out of an 84 Bronco II. Here is a link to armstrongfordtrucks gallery pic and what he did.

I haven't seen him around posting much lately in this forum. Maybe he will chime in or if anyone else has done this will.

If I remember right the STOCK BII tank was 23 gal - so even in stock form it's more capacity than the stock, in-cab tank on these things.

Ya, i did not realize that those bronco II tanks were 23 gals, so putting in one of those would be an upgrade.

Now if I could come up with a good way to put in a saddle tanks of some sort on mine. I have an open fuel door on my bed.

Anything more come of this? I got a quote yesterday for 2300 SS tank and 1500 Aluminum. Way out of my league. I might be going the cheaper route and getting a bronco II tank. Let me know if anything new has surfaced.

ChaseTruck754 04-02-2013 06:08 PM

Dang - at that price I'd consider making another one of these for someone. As you said though - way outa most people's price range. I wouldn't pay that much! Heck, I'm too cheap to pay even $600 so I made my own & spent way too much time on it.

Almost done though! I'm currently messing with the fill neck. That is if I could ever get any time in the shop:o

Ya i told them to keep the SS. I was not going to pay that much. 600 is also way to much for me. I am going to get one from a bronco II and go with that.

If i'm not mistaken the Bronco II tanks are available in both poly and steel.

elkarcher1716 04-03-2013 10:27 AM

thanks montana, I will have to search for the steel one. Really dont want to put a poly tank in if i dont have to.
