Now I know the standard is "Do your own work" but I'm not so good with engines. If I were to get a 460 and build it up, it would be done professionally at a shop or something. The other option is something like this:

Sure $7k doesn't come easy but as afar as I can tell it's a quality build. I don't know performance or cams or nothing like that so I *assume* it's fine. I checked Jasper Engines but of course, they don't offer a catalog. They pretty much force you to sign up with an email and all that garbage just for a price.

I'd look for a rebuildable big block. Old Lincolns, F series trucks and even some old U Haul trucks have the 460's. I found a couple 460's in some old U Haul trucks. You can rebuild a big block for a lot less than $7500. Remember you'll have to get a truck oil pump pick up and oil pan (rear sump). I think Milodon and Moroso both make them. L&L is pretty expensive.
If you do the build yourself, use good parts and do a "close to stock" build.......I think you'll be pretty pleased. You're gonna love the instant throttle response and torque of a big block. Get a good 4 barrel, aluminum intake ( the stock cast intake is HEAVY!). A word of advice.......invest in the L&L motor mounts! They ARE worth it! I think there is other "heavy duty mounts" out there, but I can't remember the name of them. :-huh

You can even use the crank mounted power steering pump (from early Lincolns) and I hear it works better than the later belt driven and they're real cheap to rebuild.......IF you can get them off the crank without destroying it!

See the issue is, I won't end up rebuilding it. It will go to a shop to get done and since I don't know anything I would be like your average blonde shopping for spark plugs. If I tried to do anything I'd get halfway done disassembling it and lose intrest just like the 302 I've been working on for the last 4 years. Rods are pulled and lost, heads off and derusted, pan off. And it sits.

Buying one pre built is more expensive but then I don't get effed over by a shop trying to get me to buy stuff I don't need.

You haven't ridden in a 460 bronco.

Does it matter if I haven't? I having ridden with a stock 351m and 3.55 gears. I'll bet that alone is enough. Problem is I've got crap gears, a worn motor, and no money. Sure a stock or slightly modified 460 will have some 200-300 hp and tq, but like you said. Go big or go home. Soon my old girl will be a weekend warrior or a toy. I'll have a dd that gets better mileage and is more practical, the bronco will be driven when I feel like being badass :D.

For now nothing will happen, I just started a new job so untill the bacon starts cooking, I'll have to really pinch pennies. Today I will be asleep most of today and when I get up I plan to try some light tuning on the bronco. Reset the mix screws, check timing etc. Soon after I do the brakes, new plugs, wires, and fuel filter. It's got a miss I'm a little worried about.

You won't be a badass until you drop the monster 460 in it. It will tremble Washington state when you crank it up. It will make Mt. St. Helens erupt again.

I installed spring perch and spring for tranny kickdown. Since I also have a 2" phenolic carb spacer I also had to fabricate an extension for the kickdown lever. I havent checked mpg yet since installing new carb, plugs and wires but I havent used my normal 3/8 tank this week to go 105 miles, so I am hoping the $$ I spent will translate into around 10 mpg. If it does it will pay for itself in about 7 months. Anything after that is icing on the cake.

Discovered last night that my EGR tube was cracked...now I know why I was getting an EGR code!

Ordered a replacement from PCI for half the price that everyone else wanted $42.

I found me some dick cepek mud country (35x12.50x15) tires for $500. Guy wanted $650 but got him down. Maybe these will last until I can get some newer tires.

Yep...Im expecting GREAT things once all the parts are installed! Before I was averaging 9 miles/gallon in town. Cant wait to see the change!
