Got a laptop. That's no problem. Just can't bring myself to spend the money for the AE stuff. Although it migt pay for itself since there are about 4 people that I know of with 7.3's.............

Auto E is cheaper than a trip to the dealer, and you might actully be able to fix it.

John7894 01-09-2007 03:05 PM

Alright here's a question then. Is there anything that the AE software CAN'T monitor?

From what I've read it can monitor everything right?

Uzumati 01-09-2007 06:24 PM

John, on the coolant temp

The engine coolant sensor is used as the primary input to the Electronic Control system to enable adaptive cooling. This provides a means of providing adequate cooling in severe engine temperature conditions. When ECT is greater than 107°C (225°F), the fueling rate of the engine is modified to provide cooling protection and prevent engine damage due to overheating. An ECT sensor is used only on manual transmission equipped vehicles
John AE can do anything a ford shop can do except for flash programming. Depending what system you log into you can diag all of the systems. Mine payed for itself in the first 2 months I owned it on saved labor & diag cost.

Where did you find that Alan? And does that mean to suggest there is not one on automatic trucks?

An ECT sensor is used only on manual transmission equipped vehicles
Edit: I mean that is that suggesting that it is not used for the adaptive cooling. Obviously there is one there.

The one on the Auto's is a state sensor it does not provide actuall temp info.

OK, here's an update. It's up to it's old tricks still. But man, this thing runs great when warm. It feels better without the chip than with it.....

Where is the oil temp sensor mounted at? Gonna look at changing that and the manifold sensor first.....

Gonna look into getting the AE stuff too. I'll keep ya'll posted. It might be awhile before I get back at diagnosing this thing. Work is going to get brutal here starting next week. I'm probably not going to slow down until the end of Feb... We've got a long list of vessels that need to be commissioned and sea-trialed, so I'm anticipating being offshore more than onshore for the next few weeks.....

Anyway, I'm off to the Superdome later on for the start of the tailgate party for the Saints/Eagles football game here tonight........Wish them Saints some luck, will ya!!!!!!!!!

Uzumati 01-13-2007 12:24 PM

As much as I hate LSU (War Eagle)...........Go Saints.

On the HPOP reservoir the one pointing up is pressure the one on the back pointing to the windshield is the temp.

John7894 01-18-2007 03:10 PM

Alan, you started that service truck yet? How cold is it up there....

Uzumati 01-18-2007 03:55 PM

Yea I let het sit for a few days and got her cranked tuesday and she chugged bad. had my foot on the floor and was barely creeping along and she finally started picking up rpm. Just like yours once warmed up she ran like a champ. I am going to let her sit until monday and hook up AE before I crank to see what I can see, but right now I am thinking compression.

I think it was right around 30 when I cranked her.

NOT, what I wanted to hear........

Have you tried unplugging the accelerator pedal while it chugs? Can you try that and see the result? Mine almost smoothed out completely when I did it, But I could only get it to do it once. It never really followed a pattern.....

Uzumati 01-18-2007 04:10 PM

That was one of the things I was going to look at in AE is try to see if for some reason the pedal isnt responding to input or if for some reason the IVS is not switching off.

John7894 01-18-2007 04:22 PM

If it's not raining tonight I'll unplug mine and try to start it. My trucks been sitting for a few days (needs a rear brake job). Maybe I can make it follow some pattern....

Will the engine crank without the pedal hooked up? Will it crank to a default parameter?

John7894 01-24-2007 01:01 PM

Unpluging the pedal made it worse....

Will the high idle kick in WITHOUT the oil temp sensor?

Uzumati 01-24-2007 06:07 PM

I dont know what the default value the PCM uses is John, but i would think it would be warmer than is required for high idle to trigger
