Just did head gaskets, found timing cover erosion again (2nd time) and I'm out of warranty. Switched to Detroit Diesel purple coolant, I've been running it in my Cummins for a while. 50/50 mix.

I'd imagine it will be ok..with a real good flushing of distilled...probably twice.

Other 6.4 owners on other forums recommend an average of about 4 flushes. Of course, removing the t-stats during the flush is a big part of that to really get that gold out.

that is more than I would think but then again there is a lot of capacity in the system.

I just flushed mine, I filled and drained with distilled 3 times then changed the T-stats and flushed 2 more times with distilled and then added CAT ELC. I am pretty sure after my initial dump and refill with distilled I used a gallon of restore that I got at the Cummins dealer. Thats how I have read on other forums to do the flush and its been since july and all is good but I think I still have some air in my fuel cooler since you need to disconnect the lines to get to the T-stats. Its a good solid 6-8 hour job from start to finish

I'm removing the EGR Coolers and valve, so I'm sure it will be a tad longer of a project.

It's be great! Took a new job that gave me a company truck so mine is only driven on the weekends now. Gonna start on all the additional stuff I've been wanting to do. Starting with the EGR & Coolers.

Then I may do an Air Dog or FASS system.

How about yours? Have you made it to 36,000 miles yet? Still running a Bio?

Yes, I have about 44,xxx on it now, still running great! Burning Bio when the weather allows, I just burnt the last of it in the tank for this year. I only put 6-7k a year on mine as I too have a company truck, got a new f-150 with the eco-boost last November . I really like it, plenty of power but the mileage is a bit lower than i expected. I have about 28k on it now and no issues yet.

EGR & Coolers deleted. Took a little over 4 hours. Didn't flush or refill the coolant. Ran out of time. It's now a lot easier to get to the t-stats now so the flush will be easy. Engine bay looks a lot cleaner. EGR is completely clogged.

I think the instructions should say you should enlist the help of a contortionist to assist with some of those bolts.

What's the coolant capacity now the EGR coolers are gone? Need to figure how much coolant concentrate to add.

Amen to that, my son and I tool all the brackets off too boot, lot nicer looking engine bay, not near as confrontational as it was(LOL).
Especially if you put in a new intake and get rid of the egr valve.
