Tow Hitch

I have a 2000 F-250 4x4 373 gears that came with the factory tow package rated at GVWR 8800 lbs..... I tow aprox 5500 lbs with boat and trailer. Talking with guys on the boat forum they claim alot of dealers stick cheap class III hitches on truck with factory tow packages. I looked at my hitch and it looks like it's beefy enough to carry my boat and trailer. Does anyone have an idea what the factory hitch weight rating could be for my model truck? Thanks

It should be good for at least the factory rated specs. Unless it's been tampered with it was a factory installation.

Your truck probably came with the same factory hitch mine did. Below is a pic of the label from my hitch. Your good with the weight you pull if you have the same hitch.

Weight Distributing - 1500/15000 lbs
Weight Carrying 600/6000 lbs

The weight class should be stamped on the frame of the hitch somewhere. But if it is the factory tow package, I doubt it is a class III.

Thanks! I went to a local Ford dealer to see if they could check on the info request....That was a joke! They told me they can't check or locate infromation on vehicles unless you purchased the vehicle from this dealership. I told the gentleman that I have a GM product (corvette) and if I needed information regarding recalls, build info etc. all they had to do was plug into the database with the vin# and they could pull up everything. He said that they discontinued this service several years ago. Thanks to this forum with great members I've been able to obtain info and do alot of DIY stuff and save alot of money, Thanks!

That person at that dealership is full of ****! Go to a different dealer or maybe one of the dealer techs that are members will get the info for you. I got the build info for my 2000 Navigator a few months ago without asking for it specifically from a Ford dealer that I only use for a few parts, oil changes and state inspections.

I suspect the capitalized THEY is the dealership in question, not Ford. Some dealers are truly pathetically not about customer service. Be glad they expose themselves so easily! That way you know to never buy anything from them....
