Sudden Increase in EGT at idle

Looked around a bit but could not find my particular situation, so here goes:

01 7.3 4wd DRW auto hauling 6,000 lbs. Have 4" exhaust, AFE, DP Tuner using 60T, fresh oil, fuel filter ready to change soon, full gauges with pyro pre-turbo

Usually after our horse ride when we get home we let the truck idle a few minutes to get the EGTs to 400 or below before shutting it off; doesn't tale long to cool down and sometimes it's already there when we pull up to the house.

Today, the EGTs stayed at 600 and just would not go down despite running it for about 15 minutes. This is the first time it happened.

I immediately looked for leaks but all the hoses appeared to be buttoned up. Truck had plenty of power and seemed to run normal. No other indicators.

Anyone else ever experienced this? I am thinking it might be sending unit; maybe injectors because the engine has got 120k on it; maybe the turbo is beginning to fail and this is a sign; maybe the IC has a leak in it and is not as efficient; maybe ????

Thanks.

I would check your ground connection on your gauge.. maybe loose..
Another thought, do you a cat in the exhaust system. ? Had one go back in my old F150 and the exhaust got real hot..

What was the ambient temp? Letting the truck idle like that in the cold would have caused the EBPV to close. The EBPV function is to retain heat in the exhaust.

No cat but I will check the gauge and sensor first. Thanks

thanks mate, our ambient temp here in Las Vegas was around 90 Fahrenheit so that would be unlikely; great thought though!
