460 EFI vs Carb in a E350?

I'm looking at purchasing an older motorhome between 1985 and 1996.

What year did they switch over to EFI?
Which engine is more reliable?
Is the performance about the same?
Do the carb engines have the exhaust manifold issues like the EFI?
Do they all use a C6 transmissions? If not, what transmission replaced it? If replaced, was it a better transmission than the C6?

Thanks,
Mark

The performance and fuel mileage is vastly improved and you get an E4OD overdrive transmission with EFI.

Thanks Richard. Do you know what year they changed over to the EFI and E40D Transmission?

I suspect the vans went to EFI the same year as the PUs, 1988. RockAuto.com shows EFI pieces/parts for a 1988 E350.

85 or 86 was the last year on the vans I believe. On the trucks some very early 87s had a carb. But most were EFI. With EFI you will get a little better mileage a mile or two per gallon. If you want gas mileage don't buy a 460. Most 460 guys will tell you that also. I run an 86 F250 4x4 460 C-6 with a Hughes tow converter, 6 pack forward clutch included in a Trans-Go kit. & I have other mods to engine & I get 9-10 miles per gallon if I stay out of it. An EFI will get 12 mpg maybe a little more.
