6.0L powerstroke overcharging
I have a 04 Excursion Diesel that is an electrical nightmare. I first went through 3 alternators that I thought were faulty but it was actually the little 2 wire connection was bad. Finally thought problem was fixed but now instead of having my gauges and A/C and windows stop working I now have what appears to be an overcharging problem. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>
The battery light will start flickering and then the gauges and almost anything electrical on the interior shuts off and the voltmeter I have plugged in starts jumping from an average of 13.5 volts to hitting upwards of 17 volts. Once it gets over 15.5 volts is when the battery light begins to flicker and the gauges go dead and start resetting themselves.<o></o>
<o> </o>
Obviously the first thing that comes to mind is the voltage regulator is bad on the alternator (duralast from Auto Zone) but they won’t replace it unless it faults and this is an intermittent problem. Murphy’s Law is that it won’t do it if I am close to an auto zone. <o></o>
<o> </o>
Is it possible that a bad ground could cause it? Open to any and all suggestions.<o></o>

Same problem!!!
I have an 05 Excursion with the SAME EXACT problem. I replaced the delayed accessory relay in the thing and now the gauges are working again properly and I have not seen the overcharge light since. Not for sure if the overcharging fried the relay or if the relay was proximate cause. I replaced the alternator about two weeks ago and the problem showed up about a week later. If you have found anything out let me know PLEASE!!!!!!! Looks like your post is a lil old so I hope you got ur prob fixed! Thx!!
