I did a muffler delete. Kept the resonators. Sounds great, added a tip, and boom! Satisfied.

Just cut the muffler off and add a piece of pipe. sounds good to me! no need to spend hundreds for a cat-back.

How loud is the exhaust compared to stock? Is there any drone in the cabin? I'm thinking about just removing the muffler and adding a tip. Thanks.

I think it sounds great. Not loud in my opinion at all- just a deep, solid tone. When you really get in the throttle it will sing some, but it is not obnoxious at all. Also, there is no drone whatsoever. Keep in mind I have the long wheel base extended cab.

I picked up the new truck Friday, February 22. Had it at the muffler place the next Monday morning. Removed the resonator and muffler, they did some sort of H pipe out after the cat, ran dual chrome tips and it sounds bad A$$. That same week, on Thursday, hooked up the 3 horse goose neck, put the filly up front, and hauled 500 miles round trip, mostly flat ground on I-65. The rumble on the road, hauling 8,000lbs was music to my ears. Ya have to love the radio option that raises the volume on the music when it's loud in the truck. I could feel the exhaust rumble through my seat, exactly what I wanted.

I took the baby in to change the oil at 550 miles, after that first haul, and the guys at the shop couldn't believe how great it sounds. Don't be afraid to remove everything from the cat back. It does have a little crackle if you hit it hard starting out with the weight of the trailer, but it's not annoying.

The shop guys did suggest a K & N filter..not the entire mod, just the filter..anyone have any thoughts about it? Worth $75.00?

Rapr - I really like how you set up your exhaust. Could you share where you purchased your "Dougs electric cutout" and a part #?

Does anyone have any sound clips of just removing the muffler as described above by Vinny8 and GSSF17?

Is there any noticeable gains or proven gains from the exhaust mod and/or intake mods combined? I am looking for just a little more power and mileage (as everyone else is...).

Thanks

I will try to get a sound clip soon. No noticeable power or mileage gain, but it no longer sounds like a sewing machine............

I am hoping the gains will be seen after exhaust, intake and retuning with 5Star.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say, if you do all that, there will be gains!!

With that thought, a few days ago had a full 3", catback exhaust installed on my 13 with good results. Thinking of maybe just starting a new thread dedicated to the 3" build only, but hey that maybe overkill. There's a reason for all that crap hanging underneath our trucks, totally unnecessary IMHO, (if the replacement is correctly designed/built).

There have been some guys that reduced back pressure too much, and lost power AND mileage went to crap. Gotta be careful. That's why with the stock tune (for now), I chose just to delete the muffler. Better sound, a little better flow, and I am happy.

If you don't mind me asking, what catback system did you end up with?
