not really.
the cowl is so deep, that both drain plugs on each side would need to be plugged up solid, followed by a major down pour, even then it would take a long, long time to fill up the cowl so deep with water.i don't feel it's possible.
should you try this yourself, all will become clear about how little concern this is.
i couldn't begin to fill the cowl with a garden hose,it drains so quickly.
the hole you cut, is up a few inches from the bottom of the cowl, making the duct an air inlet only, rather than a possible water drain.
as far as water entering as "mist" as you drive down the road in rain, this doesn't appear to happen at all either,as iv inspected the ducting in such conditions and found it to be bone dry inside.
im going to say the possibility of this, would likely be higher with a custom ram air ducting than the cowl duct because your driving directing into the rain, and there's no issue with that either as far as iv read.
the cowl appears to be a very safe place to grab the high pressure air from, from my experience.

FORDF250HDXLT--

Sweet mod and update! Thanks for posting.

Question-- Why put the intake over the brake booster? Why not just cut the tabs off the air cleaner, then rotate it towards the passenger side, and cut a easier, bigger hole over there? I was looking out on my truck earlier today and it seems a better spot, you wouldn't have to crush the tube at all.

Thoughts?

Thanks,
Joshua

Do you have a/c? If not, it would be a little easier depending on how you do it.

well i eventually want to do that side as well.but a little fabing is required to cut a hole on that side of the air cleaner housing.im sure it wouldn't take that long to do,and should get around to that.

I think he is saying to cut the nubs off by the intake flange so you could rotate it towards the pass. side.

That's what I got out of it also.
I think that would also work. The lower air filter assembly has those tabs, cut those off, spin the housing to the passenger side and then run the hose to the cowl that way. Put the filter back in, put the lid on, bolt it down and go, go, go!

Snaponprofile and blueovalbud you guys are right on.

Sorry I wasn't real clear.

I was just thinking that if you want one intake that would be the side to do it on, since you could have a full 4" hole cut.

And I do have AC(doesn't work), but even still the lines could easily be pushed a bit out of the way. There seems to be plenty of room.

I wonder what the best way to seal the tube to the firewall is? It's not a flat surface on the passenger side like over the booster.

Thanks!

oreilly has K&N for $65, but mine is not turbo, its part number E1460

I'm guessing I would be best off getting the K&N then?

I have a list of things that are going to be replaced and its all adding up quickly, but I can tell a lot of maintenance has gone unchecked on this truck.
