Hi everyone,

My '08 PSD F250 was declared a total loss following an accident last week. I'm now searching for a replacement and am having a tough time deciding whether or not to go for the new 2011 6.7L truck or find a leftover 2010 truck for ~$4K less.

I can get a 2011 Long-box, crew cab, 4x4, XLT truck with the 6.7L PSD for $45,700, whereas a comparable 2010 would be around $41,000. I would be REALLY stretching my budget to get the 2011, but after driving two of them I really want it.

So I need to know what sorts of real-world MPGs you guys are getting. Towing varies by a lot depending on what you tow, and city also varies by driving style more than anything. So for comparison with my '08 6.4L, what do you guys see unloaded on the highway from 65-70 MPH?

Last weekend I went on a short "road" trip of about 100 miles and got 19-20 mpg. Which I thought as pretty good. "Around town", which is suburban driving for me, I'm getting around 16. Which doesn't sound terrific but I was only getting 10-11 in my previous vehicle. It was a 2003 GMC Yukon XL 2500, Quadrasteer with a 6.0L gas engine.
Since I never test drove a 2010 I can't compare them but I'm loving my 2011 so far.

 

Just my Opinion but it is doubtful that you can get any "real world" values here or on most any forum.. First each of us drives in a different environment and have different driving habits Not to mention most tend to add a couple MPG's just to shgow how good theirtruck is.
We have the 06 F-350'' We drive at 62/65 mph on the interstares. No 0 to 60 times, light on the boost.. We are satisfied with our MPG and whatever it is would mean nothing to you unless you drive exactly the way I do under the exact same conditions.

My '08 6.4L truck would get between 15-16 at 65 MPH on the highway, and between 11-13 city.

I agree! This is why I stated that I was looking for unloaded highway MPG between 65-70 MPH. I've seen so much variance down in the 6.4L forum because everyone's driving habits are different. I figure the closest we can get for a reliable sample would be on the highway at a reasonable speed with the cruise on. I figure those should be pretty close between drivers with different habits.

 

I agree with your statement whole-heartely but disagree with the application to the OPs question. He had a 6.4 and wants to know imporvement to the 6.7 and if he should save $$ and get the '10 6.4, which is an engine he's had or go to the 6.7. So while quanatativly, you are correct, he could get some very good qualatative numbers from someone who had a 6.4 and now has a 6.7. I.E. my 6.4 got xx towing, now I get xx with the new motor. Same driving habits, same route driven, same load. Will he get the same #s, no. But will he get an idea about the difference. I think so. JUST my opinion. Of course anyone who just went $55k in debt better like, and therefore be a little biased, toward the new girl

 

Hi Tom, let me tell you. This Scorpion is unreal! I have almost 2K miles on mine and I am just about used to it.

Cruising, you will get like others are saying, I have seen 17-20 with very little change from 65-70, almost does not matter what speed you go.

Towing my travel trailer, initially I was a little angry, first few hundred miles I only got 9.5-10.5. The last 600 I drove I got 11-11.5. That's a 2-3 mpg improvement over my '08 truck, exactly what I am looking for.

Downside? None. I only caught 1 message telling me it was in regen and knowing it was going on I could not feel any difference in the way it ran and it does not tell you when it's finished. I'm pretty sure I totally missed a few of them. Nothing like the 6.4.

The 08-10 trucks are really nice but the 11's are even better. Seats more comfy, new dash is great, new headlights are better, engine is out of this world, trans is out of this world.

Heck, up there you could get a plow and make some cash, right?

 

I would go with the a 2010 because if you can't make the payments for the 2011 It would not matter how many mpgs you get if you fall behind the payments and the bank takes the truck they say the economy is going to get worse you never know what will happen intill in happens and it is too late

if he saves $50 a month on fuel to pay an extra $4000 for the 2011 truck then why not?

 

The '11 is a $4000 improvement over the '10.
If I were going to keep the truck for 5 years or more, I would get the '11.

In a few months we will know if the '11 is commuter worthy (are short daily drives going to kill it). The 6.4 ideally does not react well to long term use of daily 10 mile drives. If the 6.7 does fine, who knows?

I would like to here some replies on this as well. I plan on ordering one in the next six months.

 

the reports so far, towing and not, seem to indicate that the non-drw trucks are seeing improved mileage in the 20% range.. 2-3 over prior 10-12 (towing), and 4-5 over the prior 14-15. (unloaded)

right where ford said it was...

I haven't seen anybody with DRW, 17in wheels, comment on mileage.. drw axle moved from 4.10 to 3.73 with the 6spd tranny.. about a 10% ratio change. I am getting 12.5 empty and 9 towing on my drw. so 20% for that would be 11 and 15. vs 12-15 & 15-20 for the srws..

Just got mine last week, CC, 3.55 E-locker, 4x4, short box.

150 mile trip doing 55-60mpg got around 21-22mpg, mix of flats and hills.

 

Right now at 5800 total miles I am averaging 18.5 calculated mpg at 65 mph. Wind speed and my direction to it seems to have a large effect on my DRW.
