Backup Sensors not Working - Light Always on

Gang,

I can't find anyone who has this "always on" reverse light issue. My searches show that most people with the problem only have it when they put it in to revers. Mine's broken but the light is on all of the time indicating it's not working.

I can go through the sensors, but I think the system only recognizes sensor failures when the car is in reverse.

What's my first/next step?

I really appreciate any help.

Are you talking about the parking assist beeps? Mine has been busted since I got it...the light that's always on for me is the lit up "off" light on the button that turns them on and off. Haven't been able to figure out why...

Yes, talking about about that...

Yes, the "off" light is always on, can't find discussions with this exact issue, most seem to only go on when put in reverse and the solution for those is bad sensors. This seems like tomething else but I don't know where to start.

ok... seems like 2 of us need help.

Add me to the list. Exact same symptoms. (Mine is 2000 Ex Limited v10 4wd with 145K.)

However, right now I have bigger fish to fry with this vehicle, including new ball joints on the driver side and shocks on all four corners. In the meantime, I am just very careful when backing up.

The "off" light staying on means that there is a fault in the system. Most likely one of the sensors is bad. Find someone with an OE capable scan tool like a Snap On or SPX/OTC. You need to be able to access codes that are present in the Reverse Sensing Module (RSM). Of course the dealer has the tool to do this too. There will be a code set (because the "off" light is always on) that can point you to the problem. If it is a sensor the code will id the bad one.

Might this part be readily available at NAPA or something? If it's easy to access I'll just replace it if it's not too expensive.

The other great thing is there are different sensors! So you need to know which one is bad. At about $60 a piece i don't want shotgun parts.

Not a Sensor - Speaker

Guys,

In case this happens to anyone else, if the light is not illumnited until you put it in reverse, it is likely a sensor. In my case, the light was always illumniated regardless of being in park, drive, etc. My issue was actually a bad speaker. $20 and 5 minutes to switch out (PN# YC3Z-15K864-AA)

My understanding is that the computer only checks sensors when in reverse.

Thanks for the adivce.

Was the speaker not working completely or just not working occasionally? How did you determine that was it?

The speaker worked fine until one day when the system stopped working completely and the "Off" light was on as soon as it was started.

I didn't think it was the sensors because that symptom is only an "Off" light when in reverse. Mine was always on. I had a buddy at the shop use the diagnostic tool and it said it was the speaker. If you have similar symptoms "Off" regardless of what gear, you may want to risk the 5 minutes and 20$ to replace it.
