1994.5 - 1997 7.3L Power Stroke Diesel  

overdrive help please

overdrive help please

just bought a 1996 f-250 psd 4x4. two things wrong with the truck, the od doesnt turn off, no light or anything. the cruise control doesnt work either. dont know if those two are tied together or not. no bad fuses under the dash or hood. truck is bone stock. any help please. thanks brent.

Does the tranny function like it should but the O/D button on the gear selector does'nt work?

Wiring to the switch is most likely broken .

yes tranny functions the od doesnt turn off.

check your hazard button if your multi function switch is bad and your hazard button is in the on position you will have those symtoms.other symptons are no brake lights and trany searches for lockup obove 50 mph.

the hazards work, trans works the way it should, just cant turn the o/d off for towing. the cruise doesnt work and when you shift the truck into rev the temp gauge redlines. the only three proplems the truck has and there all in the steering colum area?

it has the abs light on also. dont know if that ties into the cruise and o/d switch.

Brake light circuit would be one thing common to all these issues. Just not sure how. Brake lights stuck on? Fuse that energizes the brake lights blown? Bad bulb causing short between brake lights and parking light circuit?

All brake and parking lights work? I'm thinking sensor in the rear end might be the proplem

Hmm, that would probably impact the speedometer as well, though.
