Robby: the hook up for the vacuum line was easy once you get into it. Use the F connector with the top post going into the silver cannister (the actual vacuum pump I believe) using one of the assorted rubber connectors, the middle post reconnects the line that went into the silver cannister originally using the clear rubber elbow connector, then the new hose connects to the bottom post again using one of the assorted rubber connectors. You can pull the rubber grommet out of the firewall that already has a line going through it and put a cut into it so that it will accommodate the new line. The hardest part is feeding the line up to the new valve. Once I had the new vacuum hose in place I simply cut the hoses going into heater core and placed the valve as the others have. Be sure to get hose clamps (I didn't think of it when making the shopping list and had to go back out for them). I can verify the valve does move/change positions when using Max AC, but I have not gone for a drive yet to determine how cold the air actually gets.

I put a vacuum controlled valve in my heater hose several years ago. I took it out for a test ride to get some numbers of the air temp at the vents driving, parked, valve open & valve closed. Here's the numbers I got:
Outside temp, 102 degrees @ 60 MPH...heater valve off...temp fluctuated between 42.6 and 43.3.
Outside temp, 102 degrees @ 60 MPH...heater valve on...temp fluctuated between 46.9 and 47.3.
Outside 102 degees @ 0 MPH...1200 RPM...heater valve off...39.0 degrees.
Outside 102 degrees @ 0 MPH...1200 PRM...heater valve on...44.6 degrees.

FYI-my 05 lariat cc has this valve already. So if anyone sees a similar truck you could also pull it off that
Dgrooman-did u hook the vacuum line up to the front of the valve? Mine came off one day an my idle was a little off and it wouldn't blow through the vents barely. I ended up hooking it up back on wrong and finally took a look at someone else super duty and figure out what I did wrong

I know it is an old thread but for the sake of completeness:
Heater Control Valve - MOTORCRAFT YG-350
On Amazon I noticed that a couple people noted that the off-brand failed much sooner than the Motorcraft brand.

roverjoe,
The heater core (inside the box under the instrument panel on the passenger's side) has hot coolant running through it all the time. The air conditioner evaporator coil is also in there. Ford controls the temperature of the output duct air by "mixing" the air coming through both those cores.
If you want MAXIMUM-COLD air, you need to shut off the engine coolant running through the heater core. That's what this valve does when in the MAX A/C position.
There are other ways of doing this, including installing a manual valve in a heater hose, but this is automatic, and only in MAX.
This "mod" came from the factory in Excursions.

I know this is a super old thread, but how did you determine the Excursion already works in this manner when the Super Duty does not?? This is the first I've read of the "Excursion" already doing this, so let me know how I can confirm or see a diagram... or whatever to know?! I surely just can't take someone's word for it. HaHa.

My 2006 F350 6.0 PSD has one!! Just saw it yesterday, as I was doing some A/C maintenance on the Excursion... and checking freon level.
Now that I see it... My Excursion has one too.
