Help: What should this hose connect to???

Click for full size.

What should this hose from the transfer case be connected to? It is the hose starting at the top middle and coming down and to the left through the image.

Thanks,

Really need to see other end to be sure but it looks like the pressure relief hose. As heat builds up in the transfer case it causes the air inside the case to expand. Without the pressure relief hose, it would eventually blow a seal somewhere and begin to leak fluid. If you look at the differentials they will have them as well as the tranny.

That's just it, it doesn't go anywhere. It was just hanging down and dragging on the ground.

It didn't smell of fluid and was dry, so I was guessing it was a vent hose of some sort. I just want to be sure and find out where it is supposed to be routed.

Thanks.

Keep it as high as possible so you don't pick up any water if you go through deep water.

Some people are known to extend it as high as possible with either a new hose or a second piece connected to he first.

Yes, route it high and make sure you make the very end point down a little. a little like an upside down "J." This will keep water and dust from going in and making its way into the diff.
