What OEM color to paint "slotted" steel wheels? Accuride Grey!
There is a ton of idle speculation and misinformation about what OEM color of gray to use on factory Superduty steel wheels. There are also recommendations to "just grab a can of grey". Yeah, no. My OCD likes OEM colors. Close enough or good enough is a very low bar. This post is to help others, like me, find the correct color to repaint factory Ford grey steel wheels.
Many, many google searches led me off into the weeds looking for an "argent gray". But that appears to be the color used on the bumper and grill. What got me on the right track was finding that Accuride made the wheels. Then I hit on an Accuride service manual:
https://www.accuridecorp.com/files/2...L-05-23-13.pdf
It included a telephone number to call for support and when I called it, the rep was super helpful. He told me that paint code I am looking for is "TCI 9820-7146". Another google search on that paint code lead me to:
https://www.tcipowder.com/resources/color-selector/
Nearly to the bottom of the page you will find "9820-7146 Accuride Grey". I suspect that a paint store would be able to mix that color but I wouldn't know how to go about doing that. Using "Accuride Gray I was able to find one (that's right so far .. one) vendor that seems to have the color ready to go:
https://www.touchupzone.com/product/...a-size=Aerosol
The price seems a bit steep at $23.00 a can and $9.95 for shipping. Anyone have thoughts on how to cheaper in an aerosol?
