Help me know more about this truck I have. Understand the engine is a 7.3 Navistar made by International Harvester. But who made the 5 Speed Tranny, International or Ford? What kind of HP & TQ should I expect from this stock setup? MPG? Seems to run good at 75 on the interstate at @2800 - 3000 rpm. How much should it be able to haul easily at 75mph? Stock sized tires, no real mods. Don't have much $ in this (1600) and would like to keep it low buck. What is it and how do you turn the IP up for increased HP? Yes, I'm a newbie when it comes to diesels.

Yup, 7.3L IDI Navistar.
'98 5 speed is a ZF-S542, or commonly called the ZF5, It is made by ZF.
Hp: 180 at 3,300 rpm
Torque: 345 lb-ft at 1,400 rpm
You can turn the IP up, you'll need a pyrometer first to prevent melting it down, it is fairly easy to do.
On the right side (passenger side) of the IP is a triangle plate, place something under the pump to catch the fuel when you pull the plate, pull the plate, slowly turn the motor over by hand while looking inside the pump until you see a allen screw, turn that screw in to turn up the fuel... Typically a flat to a flat and a half is all you want to go. (A flat of the allen wrench, or one 6th of a turn)
Turning up the fuel and creating black smoke is detrimental to the life of the motor!
-Enjoy
