Who restores interior door panels?

My 1986 F-150 Lariat has just gone through a restoration with the exception of just a few things, the main being that the interior door panels in the lariat trim are really hard to find.Just wondered if there was a resource for restoring these. The plastic near the top has faded and deteriorated from the sunlight.I have been able to find an aftermarket, but not one that is like the original and I want it to look original. Thanks

SEM makes an aerosol that is used for plastics, & carpets. find an auto paint store near you, call to see if they carry it. Comes in various colors. I think it is a 12 oz. can, about $12.00 per can. If you cannot find oem pieces. www.semproducts.com Hope this helps.

Well, you could buy plastic paint. There are a lot of different people. They're just spray cans that are made to stick to plastic.

I'd suggest Bronco Graveyard or LMC Truck.
That second one would be more on the expensive side lol.

I recommend buying new reproduction ones or sourcing a nice used set from ebay etc.

Auto upholstery shops can do a lot with that too, for cheaper than ordering up replacements.

If he has an 86 he needs some like this. LMC Truck Parts - Page 93

They reproduce power and non power window door panels, but I guess the don't reproduce the Lariet ones with the velour on them. That would be cool if they did.

There are several how to's around the internet about painting interiors. I see the paint to do it all the time in the auto part stores. I've seen pictures of people's work, and it looks real sharp. On my exes vehicle I repainted a interior piece, and it came out perfect! It was easy. It literally took about 10 minutes. If you do it yourself, then you have more of a choice of the color.

$300 for a door panel is cheap to you??

I'm still going to suggest that the do-it-yourself spray cans would be best. There are tons of people who have come out with great results and for $290 less then LMC Truck.

Its not 300 per panel, its just over 200 per pair.

The spray can idea usually looks horrible in a short amount of time, because it chips, flakes, and/or wears off. If you decide to paint, paint it the same color, so if it chips or wears off it won't be as noticable.

I've used paint made for plastics, which is what i'm suggesting. And i've NEVER had it flake off. Actually I painted some plastic green chairs with it, and they're still the good looking red. Lots of weather and heat, and still no flaking or ANYTHING.

Ordinary spray paint WILL flake off, probably in a day or two, spray paint made for spraying onto plastic however, works much much better.
