My 49 F1 226 6cyl is leaking from the front "harmonic balancer" seal, which is best ?
OE Rope type or the seal that C&G sells #b-6700-r ?
searched the forum can't find anything.

 

IMO, rope works fine. There are modern rope materials (teflon-impregnated) that are better than original. It's all in the installation tho...

Not familiar with the 6-cyl engines, but many of the one-piece neoprene lip seal kits sold for the V8 don't work that well, because they don't fill the entire groove in the oil pan and timing cover, so they can twist. Others apparently come with pieces to eliminate that, and work great.

Make sure what you buy is correct.

1GA6700A .. Packing-Front Cover / Fits: 1941/51 226 I-6.

B6700 is listed in the parts catalog for a 239 flathead V8.
