There are some year incorrect parts on that engine, including the whole air cleaner. The air cleaner is out of a 1982 and newer 4.9L.

The Picture, in post #28: Left is the Electronic Dashpot, right is the A/C throttle solenoid.

As for the choke stove, there is a metal pipe that is missing on the right side of the carb, (passenger side) that hooks to the carb air horn with a short section of hose. The pipe goes to a hole in the bottom of the exaust manifold. There is another hole on top of the exaust manifold, right above the bottom hole, that another metal pipe attaches, (also missing) that goes to the threaded fitting on the driver side of the carb in your application.

The Choke stove is different to the Heat Riser that is explained in post #27.

The Choke stove heats the choke spring, and opens the choke. All ford chokes of this era are electrical assisted thermostatic chokes. The white/Black wire from the altenator stator is also used to help open the choke. Both are crutial for proper choke operation.

The Air Cleaner heat riser system blends a mixture of heated and cold air into the air cleaner, (explained in post #27) and is regulated by a bi-metalic thermostat that controls the vacuum to a vacuum motor that controls the blend door in the air cleaner snorkle. This blends the hot and cold air into the engine to promote faster warm ups and to keep the carb from icing up in cold climates.

The choke does not automaticly close fully. You have to do this using the throttle first thing in the morning, before the truck has been started for the day. To engage the choke, and set the high idle, you must step on the throttle all the way to the floor once, to engage, then start the truck. You may also find that you need to step on the throttle after a minute or so, to disengage the high idle. The choke will automaticly open, if the electric assist and choke stove is working properly, but the fast idle may not kickdown automaticly on its own.

Hope this helps.
