Pic of a tailgate latch needed
I found a tailgate for my 1960 styleside truck, now I need the latches to hold it up. I've never seen one before. Anyone have a pic so I know what they look like? I may try to fabricate them. all I have is a square hole above the tail light whare they're supposed to be.

I don't know how much difference there is between the latches on the 48-50 trucks and the fridge trucks. Here is a pic of some custom hidden latches I made for my 49;
There's some more pics of the process in this gallery;
1949 Ford F1 4x2 - Poor-boy Tailgate
All in all I have about $20 in the latches

Thanks for the pic's...Meerbot that pic is too small to see anything. If you could e-mail me a larger version that would be great... bassnfool99@yahoo.com.
Bobby, that latch looks cool. I might use that on my 55 Che#$ that I have waiting in the weeds.

Here's a larger picture for you of the later type for a Stepside:
Or my 51s (early Stepside)
But these aren't "Styleside" type tailgates. The styleside has the center handle and release bolts strikers just like your doors.
I don't have a picture, but open this link from LMC there's a drawing that might help. Or you can call them and buy them!

I should probably say if it's not obvious that I replaced the hook thing with the climbers clip and I used swingset chains from Home Depot since I couldn't find anything else with a coating to protect the paint. LMC does sell the correct chain/coating though. I'm just impatient....
Oh, and just to correct, my truck is a styleside.

Great pictures.
On a side note, don't you just love the sound of the chains banging against the tailgate? Few things sound better. Maybe the sound of my flattie at idle with the duel stack exhaust flappers "tink, tink tinking" against the top of the stacks.
I donno, I see a lot of guys with the nice paint jobs and the chrome stuff have put their chains in rubber hoses or such, but to me it just don't seem right...slim
