Started to work on my 289 Today! Almost done

Went to the engine today, we started with this:







And this is where we stopped:





I have:

$500 ( which is what the owner wanted)
$40 in Oil, plugs, and new push rods
$12 in thermostat housing that cracked when I put it on

$552... Not bad for a running 289

Oh, I liked the air cleaner he had, idk what its from some kinda Ford. Its soaking in Vinegar right now, to get all the rust off. I CANT WAIT!

Hopefully this week. I went and bought a new Thermostat housing ($10) a BRAND new water pump was $18.. I know crazy cheap, Some zinc for the break in oil... And an Fl-1A. Thats what the 289 uses right?

Yes, that's the correct filter. Just out of curiosity, what kind of zinc additive did you get for break-in? What kind of cam does it have in it? Due to their short stroke, 289's are a little light on torque at low RPM's, but if you cam them right and the top end is set up to let them breathe, they will flat SCREAM when you really get them wound up! I've got one in my Falcon and my Mustang.
