I'm assuming your 72 tag is similar to my 81.
GVW on same tag as serial number? Axle codes on tag too? Also a stick on info tag near serial tag?
My microfiche starts at 1973 and shows n81 as a 1975 & up LN800 with gas engine. I guess what I have won't do any good for your 1972. I didn't think they would change that much.
Best I could do, Dennis.....

Better check that VIN. If it's really an "N", then it's not an F800. That would be "F81********". "N8********* in 1972 would be a -LN800, or a short nose Louisville, completely different from an F-series.

Welcome to FTE

N81 = LN800 (gas)

E = 361 2V FT engine

V = Kentucky Truck Assembly Plant

P31906 = 1972

The GVW, AXLE, TRANS, MODEL, BODY and other codes are listed on the Warranty Plate.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dennis/Ohio: 1981 Trucks are the first to have 17 digit VIN's. All the codes are listed on the white Certification Label which is glued on.

1961/80 Trucks have 11 digits VIN's. The VIN and all the codes are listed on the metal Warranty Plate, which was riveted on.

1970/80's also have a glued on 'Safety Standard' Certification Label which was glued on. It contains the Production Date, VIN, front/rear GVW and on some, tire specs.
