Commercial Plates

I am looking at getting a 6.2L raptor. The truck has a weight of 5975 pounds. In NY the weight is 5500lbs to have passenger plates. It says I can get a camper cap to get around this. Can I get a backflip and put camping gear in the back and get by the law? Thanks in advance for any help.

A few years ago I wanted to put pass plates on my 86 F250 SC. Had it weighed with both tanks empty, no spare or easily removed items. Ended up weighing around 4700#. Still put a cap on it had to be "permanently" fastened (bolted). I don't think you have to have any covering as long as the weight is low enough. The only advantage of pass plates is being able to drive on some parkways and a little cheaper (mine was about $6)
