Intake Gasket Sets

Can someone please take a look at these two different intake mainfold gaskets and tell me the difference between them.

NAPA Online+#

They say they are both for my 1977 351M yet they look so different.

Is one just a better performing one than the other or do I need to remove my manifold first and see what one of the two is actually in there?

I have an aftermarket Weiand 8010.

Ok, I give up on that then!

Anyway, basically one has a pan integrated into it and the other does not. What is the purpose of a pan? Is it something that is an "accessory", or if I need it-I need it type thing?

the pan is a splash shield to keep the oil down on the lifters and valley versus splashing up on the intake.

Go with the one with the pan, IMHO.

I have heard many discussions on the use of the valley pan. Some use it some don't. Personally I would. It is part of the oil drain back system. You have an aftermarket intake, and my guess is that they did not use the the "turkey" pan when they put it on. Hope that helps.

oops, sorry, already answered.

It does help...as I am seeing the big debate over using one or not on the internet. But I hear of guy's cleaning their valley pans when rebuilding a motor which leads me to this next question...

Can you reuse intake manifold gaskets? I guess that relates to exhaust maniflod gaskets as well as I guess they are made of the same metal material.

What prompts this is I need to replace a head gasket and was going to buy a complete engine set, and just have on hand the extra ones I dont use right now to accomplish that task. But all the sets I see never include am intake gasket. Maybe because they are reusable?
