Welcome to our newest member - girlwithatruck
Hey everyone,
I want to welcome our newest member to our chapter, girlwithatruck. She has an awesome 1980 F100 Flareside with the I6 300CID engine which she is restoring. I suggest you go to her album to see her pickup, it is going to be pretty sweet when she gets it done.
We are a fun group of Ford truck owners and enthusiasts with pickups as old as the 40's up to brand new ones. If you have a question, this is a pretty good group to get an answer from. I know a few that have the same engine as you and have done some pretty cool things with it.
We are going to have a get together in Lodi at Micke Grove on March 27th. Here is a link to that event.

Ha! Hey there TigerDan...well I got some good advice about checking out the N. Cali chapter.
I everyone! I'm Em and I've been an FTE member for a year now but I've been most active over in the G7 forum and only ever lurked here on the Cali chapter. As you can see by my sig line I have 80 flareside with 4 on the floor (OD) and an I6. I love my truck! love, love, LOVE!! Sadly she's not driveable right now with a wrecked tranny. She'll always be a project truck who's job is carrying loads from home depot and the salvage yard and the occasional trip camping or to the lake, but some day i hope to get her sweetened up, reasonably reliable, and with a rumbly exhaust.
Oh and i'm JUST LEARNING everything so I may ask questions that are way obvious to y'all folks who know stuff about mechanics and stuff.

This is my nephew's 300. It is built up pretty stout. It has a header and dual 2.25" pipes with Flowmasters. There's a whole sticky thread on exhaust in the six cyl section.

Yes, there's certainly a nice rumble at idle but with a six no matter what you do you still get sort of a (to me anyway) sports car sound when the RPMs go up. I like the sound of a six, it's just different from the sound of a V8. It's the nature of the beast, there's just a particular sound that multiples of 3 seem to produce. I've heard very similar exhaust notes between 3, 6 or 12-cylinder engines.

The 300 is the closest gasser to a diesel. It would be a whole lot of trouble for just a few mpg gain. Mine has a 4 barrel and I drive it like I dont care about mpg. Hers should get around 15mpg. The other reason, of course, is the absurd torque when they're hopped up. Ripping axles to shreds is an accomplishment.
And the smog thing, it has to be smogged now, and doing the gas to diesel paperwork is a bit of a nightmare.
