Webster's defines a spring as "an elastic body or device that recovers its original shape when released after being distorted."
Each individual leaf, therefore, is a spring. It's the difference between a soda, a pop, and a coke. If you say "pop" down here, everybody will look at you like you're a fool. "coke" is the accepted term to mean any generic cola, although that has always annoyed me because when I say "coke" I mean Coca Cola, and Pepsi is NOT acceptable. I understand where you're coming from, but it's really a moot point as either word conveys the same point.
Anyway, as I said originally, somehow this got double posted so this thread can be closed / deleted.
