heater in fuel filter bowl?

Is there a heater in the fuel filter bowl on these trucks? I know in my 99 - 02 shop book there is one in there bowls. I'm thinking my starting problem is not glow plugs but cold fuel. If there is do they just sell the heater? When I changed my fuel filter there was a peace opf steel with what looked to the a wire soilder to it at one point. Broke free! I think it was part of the heater. Hope I can just replace that.

Yes, there is a heater and they do usually break. The wires come off and then short to the bowl and pop a fuse. Most people just disconnect the wire and leave it alone. I don't think it's an issue if you get winterized fuel. I think I saw a part # for the heater kit, but I don't remember where. I'm sure someone will be able to provide that info.

you might want to recheck your gp system. I leave my truck outside 24/7 and it still starts on the first try even when the temps dip into the negatives without the block heater and fuel heater.

JMO, unless you live in Alaska or further north, you don't need the fuel heater ...

What kind of Oil are you using?....
