Taking a trip to Myrtle Beach... any recommendations?
Last year our flight to disney was delayed over 8 hours because of a broken hydraulic hose that had to be flown in from NYC. So the airline gave the whole family free trips.
We have to use these by the end of February, so my wife and I decided to go to Myrtle Beach in Carolina. It's not the best time of year, but it will be a lot nicer than here in Quebec, (currently 20 below in Celcius)
We'll drive down to Burlington, then we catch a domestic flight to Charlotte. There we're picking up a rental, and then driving down to Myrtle Beach where we booked a condo for the week.
We already got tickets for the Dolly Parton's Rodeo Dinner Show. There's a music impersonators show that we wanted to see but it's closed.
We'd be interested in hearing about other attractions in the area.
We enjoy flea markets, car shows, zoos, vinyards/breweries, Amish country, that sort of thing. Places that are clean, fun and safe.. with plenty of bathrooms er "restrooms" for the wife. We have an Impala with unlimited mileage so we don't mind if its a little out of the way as long as the scenery is nice.

I haven't been to Myrtle Beach since 1988 and, at that time, the beach didn't have any development on it and was rather quite nice to go to - Now, I hear the beach has turned into a wall-to-wall resort...
There used to be a Six Flags someplace relatively close by, but I can't remember where...

February is a nice time to go to Myrtle Beach. It's getting to the point they don't have much of an off season anymore. There is always something going on. The golfers start to descend March 1st. Unless you are going to spend time in the ocean this isn't a bad time to go since the traffic and all the tourists haven't created the gridlock that grips the place in the summer. As far as attractions...consider paying a visit to the Joe Weatherly Stock Car Museum at the Darlington Raceway. You will go right by the place if you are driving from Charlotte to the beach. It's a good way to break up the trip. 2 hours from Charlotte and 1.5 from the beach. Plenty of good places to eat at the beach. Calabash if you are on the north end of the beach and Murrell's Inlet to the south. If you are a golfer then plan on hitting the links at least once. There are quite a few dinner theatre options such as the one you mentioned. Seems like there is pretty good size flea market on Hwy 17 in Surfside. I don't think you will lack for things to do. Enjoy your trip.
