1948 Ford f1 serial number description
Hello,
New guy here.
I am looking at restoring a 1948 f1 (has a f47 on the side of cab)
I cannot find a listing to help decode the serial number and colour on the main plate.
Do these trucks only come with an exterior door lock on passangers side??
There is a steel plate on the box floor that is riveted to the sides of the box - over the wood floor. It looks like it has been formed to fit - is it stock?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Paul

Hi Paul, welcome to the forum!
Since you have an F-47, and since you're looking for the colour, you must be in Canada, and your truck is Canadian built. Canadian trucks have a little different numbering system for their vins, and a different data plate. The US info won't help you much. Fortunately, there is help for you, and all of us with "Great White North" old iron. You can find Canadian decode info at 1948 - 1951 Canadian Serial Code
The steel floor in your bed is original equipment, as is only one door lock, on the passenger side.

Since you're going to make us guess, your serial number doesn't have much info in it.
BD83H48 12345 Says you have a Ford pickup(BD), standard cab(83) assembled in Ontario(H - for home office) and build in 1948. Unit number 12345 or whatever your serial string happens to be.
Color might be listed on your data plate - not sure about 48's. It should list a colour code that is probably two digits - i.e. 24, 16, 22, etc.
The Merc pickup site that Wayne listed it good but the info is somewhat jumbled in my opinion.

I agree 100%. I find it to be a bit of a task to wade through everything that's there, but unfortunately, I don't know of any place better for Canadian truck info. If I could build a website of my own, and not have hosting costs, I'd do one. But when it comes to computers, you see here the extent of my knowledge. ;-)
