Parts pricing

I posted a few weeks ago on a steering column problem ('76 F250 camper special) and someone replaced thiers for $20.00. Checking around Portland, OR, out of 5 yards I got 3 prices, two at $125 and one at $150. Replacing a exhaust manifold was $60.00. I know... WAH!!!! But I wonder if it is just Portland, or am I looking in the wrong place? Seems to me the yards are all in cahoots...

Don, Being a small bus. owner, I can tell you that you want to be in the same range as the comp. You base your pricing on what the market will bare, look at the gas pumps. My son home from Atlanta says gas is a dime cheaper there and a dime higher 2.5 hours away in Birmingham than here in central NC.

I'd say the guy didn't buy his column from a yard, or the owner didn't know that it was tilt. I had a guy trade me a complete tilt for a regular column, so anything can happen. I see tilts advertised on the classifieds for $150.00 regularly.

The prices seem about right though.

Yes, It can drive you insane. This wrecking here called Evergreen wants 100 dollars for a FE exhaust manifold. While I was on a float trip and happen to be in San Diego. Found one for 18.00 at Pick and pull. In Oregon try the yard in Lebanon and also the town of Corvallis
The day before yesterday found a set of valve covers for FE that where flat looking on top for only 10 dollars and have seen very few of these. One time me and my parnder was looking for a older steering coulum and they wanted 75 dollar and we said no. the next weekend when back and got it for 25 dollars. So always be friendly and try to bargain.
