Diesel bacteria

Does anyone here have any pics of what the actual bacteria that grows in diesel looks like????? I have been trying to clean the lines of my truck out and this black crap keeps coming back? I'm wondering if its bacteria. I cant see inside either tank because of the baffles in each but before I drop them I'd like to know what the stuff supposed to look like.

Here it is dried up at the bottom of the fuel canister.

Not my pic but my filters look like this before and after...

Tha canister holds like 2 quarts and I'm scooping out a third a coffee cup each time. Its just black and gooey?

Black, slimy, bad smell, you have a contaminated fuel system. A biocide may be able to control the problem.

Hard to say where the contamination came from. Could have been bad fuel from a fillup, water already in your tank and then bacteria from somewhere. It could be tough to get rid of.

I have been around diesel's a long, long time and so far have not gotten or seen a real contaminated system. Pics of the slimy stuff are ugly.

That looks more like rust to me. The bacteria I have seen growing in diesel is kinda stringy, guey and almost the same color as diesel. That looks like it has a steel tank that sat for a long time low on fuel.

Well...as a matter of fact it did. Sat in a bunker in reserve storage for almost 3 years and when I got it, it was as is so there was some rust. The thing is I did flush them out before driving and this problem just developed. Also put a bottle of DieselKleen in each after flushing. I cracked one of he fuel lines and this slime is all in it like cholesterol buildup in a vein. Pretty crazy stuff, the fuel lines are all copper so they cant be rusting. Wouldn't have a pic of this stringy bacteria would you????

From what I've read, there are around 27 kinds of algae, bacteria, yeast, that can develop. Some are black and slimy like mucous, some are stringy, kind of like tendrils. None can develop without the presence of water.

Do a search for diesel contamination or diesel+bacteria and you will find some pics and loads of information.

John Deere makes a very good biocide that will treat bulk tanks or onboard tanks. Unless you use a biocide it's very hard to get rid of completely.

Case International Harvester offers an additive that kills bacteria. Farmers here use it anytime they suspect a problem may occur. That stuff in the pic looks more like rust to me. If your tank is made of metal, drop it and look inside.

Diesel bacteria

We just finished our website about diesel bacteria. This page is from Norway but you can read in english offcourse. It is hard to come in on the US marked. If you can help me please send me a email. We produce Bio Protect 2 to prevent diesel bacteria. This is used in many countries in Europe. On ships, Boats, Cars, Farming Industry, Oil-rigs and more. Everything that goes on diesel. Look at our homepage. You are welkomme to become a dealer in your Country. Very good references.

Tractor Supply sells bio-cide (from the makers of Diesel Kleen) for 25 bucks and it'll take care of your little dirty problem.
