If you like cold and snow, then this is the place to be. We have had a bout a foot or so (Hard to tell with it blowing around) in the last day or so and the temps are in the low teens, with wind chills near 0*
Good evening Neil. We had a house fire that took 2 years to put out. LOL
Ah nice way to ring out the old and to bring in the new. One of the departments in the eastern part of the county had a barn fire today that also involved a large propane tank. They had about 8 or 9 tankers and several pumpers there..... all this with a snow storm going on.
We have not had anything since Dec 23rd which was a car off the road with air bag deployment. I think that the driver was going too fast for conditions and lost it and in the process he hit a hydrant. No injuries so it was a sign off.
We almost had one today. I went into town to pick up groceries and on my way back, I noticed some wire that were hanging low just inside my district. It appears a town snowplow backed into the pole with its wing plow and snapped the pole and broke both the electric and telephone wires in half. The highway superintendent shut the road down so it saved us from babysitting it.
Wouldn't it be better going on a call in the winter than in the summer? I know I tried on my friends turn out gear it and was nice and toasty in the winter time. Especially the nomex hood.

That's a loaded question. When you fight a fire in the winter, you get all hot and sweaty while your fighting the fire. Once you stop fighting you cool down and can get cold.
In the summer time you get hot, but after your task is completed you can remove your turn outs to cool down.
