oh damn... i LIKE the look of the SD! engine sounds interesting enough, and if i was an automatic guy, it sounds like a hell of a tranny as well. (that's going to be the hard part to swallow when i have to buy a new one if i can't find a used w/ a handshaker).
i will HAVE to go check one out when they come out...

I have a feeling that Ford might be disappointed in the sales of this new rig. The tree huggers and feds have made sure that it's no longer economical to own diesel. If the new 6.2L gasser does well, the recreational diesel owners will either keep what they have or get the 6.2L for a lot less $.

heck i think the 2011 looks awesome but who can afford or want to have a 50-60k payment on a truck. when in 5 years its worth 10k. And i own both a 7.3 diesel and a v10 and buying another truck id lean more to a v10 and if the new diesel is gonna be more then a 7000.00 upgrade i would say sales are gonna slump. And no Manual tranny is the worst idea i ever heard.

I do agree that these trucks are getting costly...

Think the price of the new EPA friendly diesels will go down over time.
Right now, the whole thing have a huge margin built in it for tooling, warranty, unexpected risks, etc.
In 5 years, that will be largely known and the designs will stabilize.
Furthermore, cumulative volumes increases will also lower costs.
Gassers are about to become much more expensive, with direct fuel injection, and Fuel Economy standards making gasoline fueled vehicles costly.
What is bound to happen is the days of the high output gasoline engine in every day use (e.g. your 200hp Corolla, or 320hp, 390ft-lb V8 5.4) is bound to gradually come to an end and be replaced with much smaller engines that cannot put out that level of horsepower on anything close to a sustainable basis.
A 5.4 in the above example can plausibly put out enough HP and Torque to drag a 6,000lb trailer around occasionally.
Or, say, roughly 80hp, 120ft lbs of torque.
The 6.2? Probably performance equivalent to the 6.8 V10 on an occasional basis.
On the other hand, the 6.7 will probably be happy putting out 40 to 50% of its rated output and torque all day, all the time.
It puts it into a totally different category.

I agree with gassers becoming more expensive to own. But I doubt that the price of diesel rigs will come down any. They may stabilize in a few years, but definately won't come down. All the more reason to look for a mid 90's rig and begin the restoration and modifications before there aren't any left to be had for the recreational user.
