I just got a "Obamamobile" free of charge.. thanks Obama...

*THIS IS NOT A POLITICAL THREAD, DO NOT TURN IT INTO ONE PLEASE*

Decided to take the Gov up on the economic and stimulus plan and bought a Low speed Vehicle. Its basically a Golf cart that is street legal and DOT approved tires, glass, belts, lights and such. I live in a small city type area that the speed limit is under 30 mpg so I am just fine for trips around town.

Details:

https://www.freeelectriccar.com

8 hour charge = 40+ mile range. max speed is 22ish.

Paid $6500 + $500 shipping.

They are approved for a 6500 tax credit (not a deduction) for 2009. So if my total taxes that I paid for 2009 is over 6500 I get the full amount back.(and I have)

IRS certification letter:
https://www.freeelectriccar.com/IRS_Certification.pdf
it can also be found on the irs webpage I found.

and the news story:
YouTube - OBAMA GIVING OUT FREE GOLF CARTS TO SAVE THE ENVIRONMENT / ECONOMY! ROFL!

Bad news, it will take 12 weeks for actual delivery, but that does not matter because the title will be in hand this week and that is all that is needed to qualify to take ownership in 2009 according to the IRS website.

2 items that I will look into as soon as I get it.

Remove the speed limiter and see about lifting it & larger tires.

I think I saw something on the TV show "truck U" about moding the golf carts. I beleive it was an old show though. They turned out to be sweet.

See lifted gas carts all the time. Not to many electric. Not sure how it would do off road. I figure it would pull alot of juice driving around in the sand.

If I'm not mistaken, a tax credit is just taking $6500 off what you made. So if you are in the 30% tax bracket you really only save $2k in money out of your pocket.

That is a tax deduction. A tax credit is dollar for dollar off of the taxes owed.

Sweet deal, if I had $7K lying around that I could loan my self for a few months.

if you owe less than $6500 will you get a refund. or does it stop at $0 ... I could actually get paid for buying one in that case

PS Obama Rocks!!!!
