460 dual exhaust headers
I have a 1996 ford F250 4x4 460 7.5L xl single cab. I bought it with a exhaust leak where the exhaust meets the manifold. I have takin it around town and it is a pain to fix due to the fact that the bolts are rusted out and are impossible to replace. So me and my dad are going to take off the manifolds and cut the exaust and put headers on it and then have the pipes re ran to the mufflers by a shop. Now here's the question: What are the best headers. I am on a tight budget and want to order through summit racing. But which of these three are better for true dual exhaust without using the y-pipe?

On a budget or otherwise I would run with a single mandrel bent 3" going through a quality straight through muffler like a Magnaflow.... For this the 89510s with the y pipe will serve you well... and sound will be amazing.. Do yourself a favor and strip them down and and sand them clean then apply VHT paint to them be sure to bake the header according to directions and the finish will last forever..
Its a pain to run duals on these trucks...not to mention all your really gaining is an extra 40 or so lbs of metal under your truck and twice the price..
Even Banks systems run a single pipe....
EDIT to add.... ditch the cat, hollow it out (legallities), or replace it with a high flow...

Well if you have the pipes already any shop can connect them to headers the 89510s would work without the y pipe the collectors hang down plent far...
That being said, most shops won't touch a vehicle exhaust like you describe with no converters.... Something about thousands of dollars in fines .... Unless you know them well, your gonna have to go the private route....

The 1st and 3rd summit link are the same header, first is a painted and third is ceramic coated.
It's up to you which one you get.
Then just save yourself time and money, and buy a 4" diesel exhaust for the truck, with muffler. Use a cat, don't use a cat, I don't care. I've done it both ways and seen zero power loss (with a good stock 20+ year old cat)
Single 3" is fine on a stock 460, but 4" won't hurt.

I've got these old Hedman long tubes in my truck (in sig): http://www.summitracing.com/parts/he...rd/model/f-350
It's a cheapo pair, but they've been there for 15 years and they're holding up fine.
I've got true dual 2.25" (or 2.5", don't remember...) pipes and Flowmaster 50s, and I can take pics for you of the whole system if you want. Should look similar to the setup you're doing.

Since this is an old thread... I found when looking for headers is to look at the reveiw of previous buyers. Have them gone easy the first time is worth it's weight in gold. Having to take them on and off a couple of time to tweek them to fit is a pain. Short vs Long tube headers, unless you are at max RPM there is really no difference (maybe 3% or less change) in horse power between the two. Shorties are eazier to install with exsisting systems.

Depending where you are those headman header will make it ONE season then they will be rotted out and you will be replacing them.
I bought L&L triple nickel plated headers for one truck(in 1998) and they look like the day I put them on, other than a lil blueing
On another truck I put on Banks Torque tubes and their Y-pipe. All stainless and it still looks new(installed in 01)

I also have experience with the L&L headers (and a 4" diesel exhaust with twin bullet cats) and the 100% banks kit. Both are fantastic headers. Banks comes with a great y-pipe, its all stainless, and all you need to do is reuse factory cat (which I did on this truck) and get swaybar bracket from banks (F350 w/manual) The L&L headers I made my own 3" stainless exhaust from each header into their own bullet cat that went into a dual 3" inlet single 4" outlet stainless magnaflow muffler, then into a 4" aluminized diesel exhaust.
Both setups were 4-5 years old in Maine salty winters and lakeside summers, looked fantastic when I sold the trucks.
