ESOF Issue: Grinding after disengaging turning left
2006 F250 V10 4x4 w/ ESOF
Goes into 4x4 with ESOF no problem. I can engage and disengage as I go down the road. However, if I have 4x4 engaged, then disengage and proceed to make a left turn within 50ft of disengaging, I get this grinding noise that sounds like it is coming from the drivers side front. It sounds like sometyhing is grinding hard. Then if I straighten up and go down the road a couple hundred feet, and turn again no problems. I assume that my hub is not disengaging? Suggestions? 60k miles, maybe time to pull apart and clean? I haven't been able to pull wheel yet, but any help is appreciated. Thanks

Yep, had same sound same issue with my 01. Decided that the cost of repair/rebuild did not justify the convenience of staying in the cab so I switched to manual hubs and never regretted the decision. As far as the noise, it was a front hub that was just loose enough that it would occasional ride on the splines of the axle when turning a sharp turn, usually in or out of a parking space. Not sure if there is any other rebuild posts cause they are pretty simple as far as the construction goes, just expensive cause it is all factory parts and factory prices. If you decide to save several hundred look at the many posts on converting to manual hubs.
