I think I may be having close to the same problem or related to it. I just bought mine 3 weeks ago, been driving fine then all of a sudden the truck would stall with no warning. It would just die. It wouldn't sputter or nothing. I would try and fire it back up and wouldn't here the fuel pump engage .........it would just crank and crank and crank. After a few minutes, I would turn the key again, hear the pump engage, and it would then start........run for a bit and die again. Does this sound like maybe we have the same issue? I'm thinking the relay is getting hot and shutting down, then when it's cooled it opens up for power to go to the pump??? Am I close?

Anyways dropped my power cord and it grounded out to the frame and popped a fuse and something else i guess. I replaced the fuse and it popped a few more fuses each time i tried to turn the key on.

Now i dont have any power to one of the relays. Apparently there is more than one relay tied to the fuel system. It is the relay that is outside the fuse box. I have no power going to it at all. But i still have 12v to across the fuse. I also know all the relays are good. Apparently my relay that is in the fuse box is not getting signal to open.
According to my EVTM the power for the Fuel Pump Relay (and others) comes directly from Fuse Links A and B. No other relay is involved. The Fuse Links are on the Starter Relay, aka solenoid, on the passenger side fender. Best as I can tell from the schematic the links are in parallel to each other. If one blows, the other is going to carry the full load.

I highly suggest you track down an EVTM and Haynes Manual, they are invaluable for this kind of work.

need wire diagram at the fuel pump mid tank

hello out their , got a 460 with duel tanks which when i got the truck has been wired to bypass the stock fuel switch...now i have 12v autozone switch that turns the pump on and off no relays cause the pump will run non stop if the key is on and if the switch is on ... the question i need help with along with the diagram is i have tested 12v at the fuel pump with test light and i have power... so the pump works then stops then works then stops so i am wondering if i am have a ground issue. its a plow truck that sits all yr so if i can figure out which of the wires at the fuel pump is ground then i can rule out power and ground issue to move on to then knowing the pump is bad ...thx ahead

WHen you turn the key on, you should have power at the inertia switch only for a couple seconds like you say you have. If you crank the engine you should get power again but if the engine doesnt start and you stop cranking, you'll lose power after a couple seconds. How are you checking for power at the inertia switch?

If you have power and ground at the pump and it doesnt run you have a bad pump. Check it with a load on the system(fuel pump connected).

So you have power to the inertia switch but not to the pump, right? That would have to be either a bad inertia switch or wiring to the pump from the IS. You did try resetting the switch, didn't you?

since the truck does not start , there is no pip sig. from distriputer. so is it normal for the power at the inertia switch to stop after cranking?
