F-150 want start
Hey Guys,
My wife's 1999 F-150 Roush Mark Martin Signature Edition will not start. She has a 5.4 Triton V-8, with only 8500 miles on her. She has not been started for months. I got in her yesterday and she would turn over but not fire. So I put gas in a spray bottle undone air intake and had wife come out and give me a hand. (had fire extinguisher within reach) I told her to try her as I sprayed gas in intake she fired right up. When I stopped spraying gas she died. I checked fuses, changed out fuel pump relay and don't know where to go from there. I'm mechanically knowledgeable (with old cars) but don't know where to start on this newer model. Please advise!!!

The first I would do is check the inertia switch to see if it was tripped . Did you have fuel pressure at the fuel rail , either before or after the new fuel relay ? Can you hear the fuel pump run ? It also could be PATS issue , you might try a different key. I would not even bother checking the fuel filter at that low of miles and filter problems typically don't cause no start problems mostly high speed an performance issues .

same problem with my 2001 F-250
Hi Jim here,
I have the same problem with my F-250 with 5.4 triton with 150,000 miles. It was intermittant for a while. Ran great until it didn't. Towed to mechanic. Next day it started right up for him. Checked codes and found none. Used it two more weeks and yesterday same thing. Today it won't start. Turns over good but no sign of starting. Tried a little starting fluid in the filter. worked for a few seconds. Not getting fuel it seems.
Does this sound like a failing fuel pump to anyone? Any other suggestions?

If it hasn't been started for months, it could be condensation in the tank, and that got sucked into the fuel lines. It ran when you squirted gas ( good gas ). So it seems like either it's not getting any gas from the tank, or, what is being pumped has water in it. I've never had an electric pump that worked intermittently. I suppose a faulty harness connection possibly could be the issue. The miles are low, but it's still 12 year old truck ? Voltage test at the pump (key on ) ?

You first need to be sure the pump is able to run by test at igniton run position.
Then a test of fuel pressure.
Then, is the gas in the tank any good if it still won't fire on it's own?
Drain the tank as best you can and put fresh gas in to be sure.
Open the fuel filter line and do a bunch of igniton run position switches to get clean gas up to the filter.
If it is old gas, put some water absorber in to finish the job.
Then a new tank of gas.
Good luck.

I have a 98 with the V6. 150k miles. Truck will crank til the battery dies but will not start. I sprayed starter fluid in the throttle body opening and it will start and run for 10-20 seconds.. I've never had a starting problem in the past. The truck pretty much set in the driveway(frontend pointing toward the street, rearend toward the house) for about a year. I would crank it up at least twice a month and let it run for a while. I would also take it around the block every now and then. About 6 mths ago I somehow left the cab light on and it drained the battery. Didnt get to crank it for maybe two mths or so. I finally got time to recharge the battery and that's when the problem stated. Battery is good and fully charged but the engine will not start. After getting it to start using the starter fluid, the problem seems to be fuel pump related.
I will do some troubleshooting with the ideas you guys posted. Any other help would be great.
