1995 Supertruck build blog

Hey everyone! Hopefully I have this posted in the correct forum! I wanted to make a thread for this project, so I can save the memories and maybe help others to become inspired. I haven't seen many of this specific generation of medium duty trucks turned into a super pickup.

Since high school I've wanted a larger truck. I originally wanted an older late 50s or 60s cab over or conventional semi. Since moving to Georgia from Utah in 2015 that has changes. At the Sears Auto I worked at we had an 89 F-800 box truck. I used my break times to get it running but wasn't able to accomplish much else. After a job change in 2019, I began driving a 2011 F-750 service truck for work and I decided the F-series is what I wanted. Parts for the cab and interior are easy to find aftermarket due to Ford using a pickup cab. I love the "squared off" interior of the I believe '86 through '97 trucks. So after 6 years of searching, in December 2021, I purchased a '95 F-800. So far all i have done is replace the thermostat, and ran manual temperature and engine oil pressure gauges.

The plan is to sell the 24 foot flatbed off of the truck and buy a 14 foot bed to shorten to an 11 foot main deck with a 12 inch rear step bumper. I'm going for a CM flatbed look but without the steep price tag, plus it's "built, not bought!"

I also plan to sell or trade the rounded hood and fenders and cowl and go to the previous generation squared off hood, I think it looks more like an LTL and much more tough.

Follow along if you are interested!

They used the squared off front end from 1980 to 1993 or 94 before switching to the one you have now
I have a 93 F-800 that was a short wheel base single axle semi, we have recently added 30 inch to the frame making it long enough for a 14 ft dump flat

Some updates

So, since my last post, I sold the longer flatbed, and bought a used 14 foot flatbed, ahortened the truck frame, and attached the new bed. The radiator is rotten, and my junk battery's have decided to give up. I found a brand new rad on ebay but have to save up for it. Since I haven't been able to afford much lately on the truck, I painted the driver's side step, and now I'm wanting to get repairing the bed and painting it!

I've located an older style hood in my companys boneyard, and sence they have a 98 f800 hat needs a hood I'm working on a trade deal, but the hood they have is pretty much just the fiberglass and grille, so we will see.

Latest update

Well, the hood at work ain't really impressing me. It will require a bit more work and money then I'm really willing to spend, for something I don't have to have, whereas I need batteries, possibly a radiator, and definitely tires pretty soon.

so, that being said, last week, I tore the grille off of the hood, and painted it. Definitely need to do the headlight bezels now!

Also tore down the inside door panels, to try and get to the back of he mirror bolts, so I can get those off and panted. I got sidetracked and started investigating the door locks. From the inside they work, but the outside tumblers are inoperable. Looks like the passenger side is fine but the drivers side has been modified with a zizz wheel!

Next step is painting headlight bezels and getting the mirrors off, getting them painted, and then putting the interior back together.

Before picture of the grille

After paint

After with the blue oval installed

And all done!
