75/77 F150 Questions
I currently have two decent options for a 4x4 conversion on my 1956 F-600. Since the chassis alone adds 2,000#s and this is to be a daily driver, I'm swapping out the whole chassis rather than parts.
Right now I have two possibilities, a '64 F-250 and a '75/77 F150 and am not sure which would make a better choice. ALso a possibility of a '97 F-250HD that was rolled.
I'm not sure if in those 13 years what all advancements took place. I would asume though things like the brake system and steering would be better. Was the '64 F250 even as strong of a chassis as a '75/77 f150?
Thanks

The '64 would be slightly heavier and even older than the '77 with drum brakes and even more minimalistic equipment.
The '77 F150 4x4 would have disc brakes and power brakes as standard equipment.
However, neither will adapt to the F600...that's a whole different truck class all by itself, and is considered a large downgrade.

lol I don't need to move 22,000#s... to be honest it moves like a tank at it's current weight and set up. Downgrade in what it can move, upgrade in the fact that it can, lol.
Thanks for the input.
Oh and I forgot to mention there is a rolled '97 F-250HD, its a bit more money... my main concern would be damage from the roll or what not. The 460 in it is a bit much for daily driving dispite my love for big blocks.

I don't know much about the '56s, but if the '56 F600's cab and doghouse is the same as a '56 F100, then I could see setting it on a '77 F150 frame without too much worry if you aren't gonna use whatever was on the back of the cab on the F600.
The '97 would be even better...but it being rolled, I'd check everything out. 460s can move the F600 briskly...but it'll stop at every gas station!

Right now I have no bed on the truck, there use to be a 4,000# metal bed and a 5,000# broken compressor. I plan on putting a step-side long bed on it, so much style gets lot on these trucks with flat beds.
I am thinking the '97 would be the way to go, going to run me a little more but it might be well worth it. I know it had some weird Transmission problems, but not enough to keep it from driving. I may just swap out the powertrain to like a 351w so I can actually have som gas milage... or maybe I'll just end up being rich and be able to afford it, lol
