5.0 EFI versus 4.6 Cobra Engine

Okay guys I am about to start a journey with my 51 Ford F1 and I would like some input. What are the merits of going with a 5.0 versus a 4.6 engine. Truck has already been converted to the mustang II front end. I have a complete 96 Ford explorer with the the 5.0 and transmission that is running great. I would have to search out the 4.6 and all the parts. Truck currently has a buick V6 that I plan to keep running until I take the leap.

The 5.0 has a massive aftermarket full of go fast goodies behind it for both carbed and EFI applicatons, it's really no contest.

lots of cheap, new and used parts available for the 5.0l,4.6 more expensive to play with,5.0l makes power and torque at lower rpm`s,4.6 is more of a screemer.

I think you guys are right. I am looking at the parts available and the 5.0 has lots to select from.

If taking apart and assembling a 4.6 is anything like my wife's 2.5L Cougar engine, you'll be MUCH happier working on the 5.0.

One thing to check is an engine harness. If wiring is not your thing Ford Motorsports offers a harness with excellent instructions on the swap. Although now that I think about it their harness is for Mustang, don't know if there would be a difference.

The 4.6 is quite a bit broader between the rails. The 5.0 fits much nicer.
