What mods would you do while your Excursion's Body is lifted off the frame?

Looking for suggestions, as I will soon be in that situation. The body will be lifted off the chassis for a (hopefully short) while. During that time I plan on fixing/modding a few things and want to make sure I don't miss anything while its apart... Bone stock 2002 7.3L Ex except for CCV & 6637.

So far I plan on:

Fuel Tank "hutch/harpoon" mod
Interntional up pipes/joints (budget allowing)
HPX
IAH
Turbo wheel/WW (maybe)
Exhaust (budget allowing)
Additional Soundproofing - not sure how or what I will use for this?

What else??? I know I'm forgetting some little thing(s) that will be much easier while working on an open chassis!

TIA...

Lack of funds not withstanding:
  • Garrett GTP 38R ball-bearing turbo
  • Van turbo if the 38R is cost prohibitive (contact Clay at Riffraff Performance)
  • Single shot injectors with requisite custom tuning by Jody at DP-Tuner
  • ITP Pre-pump mod (since you're dropping the tank)
  • ITP Regulated Return
I'd recommend Clay at Riffraff Performance for the bellowed up-pipes, HPX line, and AIH delete plug.

Also, do you have gauges? If not, now would be a good time to get a set. Get the AIH delete with the boost boss and it will be easier to connect your boost gauge. Clay can hook you up with gauges too.

Guesss I should have emphasized "inexpensive mods" in my original post...

I've thought about that but would rather address it with proper springs to correct the ride height/wander/towing issues. Besides, I heard you can get a set of "2.5" leveling springs on Amazon for $250

Lack of funds is withstanding
Gauges and tuner are already in the plan, but can be installed with the truck all together. (although the senders will be easier to do with it stripped) - good call!
A big/better turbo and single shots are out of my budget.
Will consider the pre-pump along with the tank mod

Frame and oil pan have only 26,000 miles on them - looks pretty new, but I plan on touching it up.
Would love a 4-link, but thats waaaaay too much $$$

Thanks to all for the ideas, keep them coming...

ps: scottf4444, thanks for the reps! (from another thread)

Body is bad...bad...bad... Rollover & theft. Every panel damaged, 50% of the interior trim parts missing or damaged, nearly all the glass is missing/broken. Many dash components are missing
But the seats, engine, susp. and drivetrain are cherry. It is a huge project to say the least. This picture doesn't do it justice. More to come...

Are you referrring to the amazon springs mentioed above? If so, look at YellowSled's EX, he's got them on his. He has a couple threads about it: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...yesterday.html

  • One for sure thing - the 6.4 Liter Tranny Cooler in the front - the big one.
  • Next (dollars permitting) - fit a compressed air system into the frame - tires, beach toys, and, uhhh............ AIR HORNS BWAAA-HA-HA.
I'm also in for the gauges - nothing beats a good set of 2" analogs to instantaneously spot what the engine is doing.

Good luck on the chassis off restoration.
