I thought I had read somewhere that the 16.5" rims were bad for losing bead when wheeling. Not that it's not capable with any wheel and rim combo, I just thought I read the 16.5"s were worse.

Yup, no inner bead so you can't air them down much or they'll pop right off. Seen folks on the web welding they're own inner bead, but then they're stuck using a sawzall to get the tire off of it.

i have never had any problem with that.

it's from lowered air pressure in the tires. i've drove with my 38's as low as 8-10psi on 16.5's without an issue, but that was just down the block to the gas station to fill them up. i wouldn't wheel with them that low though.

like i said before, i never had any problem. and i would regularly air down to 10 lbs for running on the beach.
not once did i ever pop a bead.

I race with 10psi in the rear on 16.5 rims and Ive never popped a bead.

The front with 35psi is another story...
