52 ford headlight switch mounting

Hello, I need some help! I put the dash out of a 52 F-1 into my Model A roadster. The problem I am having is with the head light switch mounting. I bought a new switch from LMC, which doesnt have the **** or arm, and cant figure out how it mounts to the dash. Does anyone have pictures of a switch mounted. Does the switch need a bezel on the outside of the dash. Thanks for looking Ian

Yep, there is a threaded bezel that goes in from the front and a **** with a small round rod that has a notch that pushes in, sorry its too late tonight to find a picture but this will bump you to the top and help will come.

I am using 56 bezels with my dash (on my 51) so a picture of that won't be of much help. But here is a picture of the 51/52 switch with the bezel and **** installed - not that great but is will give you an idea:

Here is a picture of the **** and shaft. Usually sold separately:

Thanks for the pictures, the cylinder shaped part behind the bezel, is that part of the switch or the bezel? The switch I ordered from LMC is flat on the front with a threaded hole where the rod goes through. Thanks again Ian

It's part of the switch. The bezel is that flat little chrome ring. But also, there is a retaining "nut" which has a threaded shaft (like a drum)and a slotted faceplate on it that is inserted into the bezel, then threads into the front of the switch, then the **** shaft is inserted into the little hole in the "nut" and ultimately the switch.

There were lots a variations, but the switch should have a threaded hole in the front of it (about 3/8" diameter or thereabouts) and the bezel shaft threads into it.

This is probably what your switch looks like - just a little different configuration:

And the bezel itself:

Sorry, I can't find a picture of the nut - If I do I'll post it.

Edit note: Bad news/good news! I did a little research and also called my friends up at C&G Ford parts. It seems that the 51/52 "Headlight Switch Bezel Nut" for th e51/52 is not being reproduced. HOWEVER, the ones for both the 53/54 switch, and the 55& 56 switches are. The threaded portion that threads into the light switch is the same. The difference is the size of the face - as the bezels are different. It appears that if you get stuck, you could grind down to a smaller diameter, the face plate of one of those two to fit in the bezel of the 51/52 switch and it will work.

But I also realized that yo umay have bought the 51/52 switch because that is the year of the dash you installed. In actuallity, any light switch from 51-56 will fit behind that dash. I don't know if you have your heart set on 51/52 bezels, but I use 56 bezels in my 51 because I like them better and they adapt readily.

One last note, the 51/55 headlight switches had a rheostat for dimming the instrument lights. That rheostat (unless your switch is specifically configured to take 12 volts) is made for 6 volt power. I'm not sure, but I would venture to say youare using 12 volt negative ground in your buggy and I might be tempted to return the 51/52 switch, and buy a 56 switch - with the retaining nut, and either grind down the nut to fit the 51/52 bezel, or use 56 bezels all around. Here is a picture of my 51 with the 56 bezels:

HI Ian,

If you can't find a used one from a member, you might call LMC and ask then to pull one of the 53/54 or 55/56 nuts and see if it screws into the 51 switch. If it does, then all youneed to do is grind the flaired edge a little to get it to fit in the 51 bezel and it should work fine.
