hello, smoke comes out the dip stick tube , is there a cdr valve some where on this motor that needs cleaned? thanks for your good hrlp.

 

Nope. No CDR. There is a crankcase vent in the doghouse on the drivers side head that does essentially the same thing.

How much smoke are we talking about? AFAIK they all smoke a little bit out the tube, but if it's puffing smoke there may be an issue.

 

does the smoke smell like burning wire insulation??? If it does your Glowplug/injector harness may be burning up...
That happened to mine not long ago. If it starts running rough or only on 4 cylinders that could be the problem

 

Sounds like blowby to me. Remove the oil cap with the engine running, turn cap upside down and put it back. If it gets blown off, you have excessive blowby.

 

X2 what he said. You could clean the doghouse for the CCV in the drivers valve cover, but its uncommon that it cloges (spell?), and pretty sure you are going to need new set of o-ring for it (they will be swallowed (spell againg?), so be prepared.

 

thanks, ya its blowby,340,000 mi.on er, i will see if she can make 500,000 mi, still runs strong, dont use much oil and dont seem to have alot of smoke out the tail pipe. im going to take it on a 800 mi. trip through the cascade and blue mountains of Oregon next week with the camper on and towing a big load behind, i will see if she can out do my old 86 6.9 that has made the trip many times, thanks,
