'01 Expy 4.6L exhaust

This may have been covered in another thread, and if so, kindly direct me there and I will read and learn....

I just got an '01 Expy XLT with the 4.6L. I'm not looking to hotrod it, but I would like to get a little more performance and a little better mileage. I already have the K&N options in mind and am keeping my eyes open for a cold air induction kit. I am also hunting around for someone that will assist me in chipping the ECU. I would also like to get opinions on exhaust systems.

I don't want it to be loud, just more efficient. I've thought about duals from the CAT and also of going with a single larger diameter pipe and low restriction muffler like a torbo-flow. Anybody have an ideas or other posts you can point me too?

Thanks! (I'm still working on getting a pic of my new baby)

Hi, I also have a 2001 4.6 4X4 XLT with 3.55 gears. I asked like questions a year or so ago and while some folks thought the muffler and free flow filter might help a little - not in comparison to effort and cost. Don't know about headers. Of course with such a heavy vehicle - maybe even 5 or less horsepower gains might help - for me the original exhaust is still good, so I haven't changed anything yet. Of course others stand by their changes, so without trying myself - I am back to don't know!

Good luck

Mike

I'm thinking I'm just going to change out the airfilter for either an Airhawg or a K&N and change the muffler to a turboflow, and remove the converter. 2-3 mpg would be a great thing!

If you go with headers let me know. I have brand new ceramic coated shorty headers for sale. It was a wrong year for my expedition- my is 03 second generation body and it will not fit. Thanks
